So I have a guy i have worked with for year and now he wants to start a affiliate program, not sure wether 3rd party of software is good for him? how does a person decide?

second i heard that this site

    http://www.kowabunga.com/

carries excellent affiliate program for tracking sales, as thats what he wants he wants to track affiliate sales not referalls. I dont want to tell him hes going to have to pay thousands to get setup, if it can be done cheaper... what software do you recommend and what price is he looking at spending, one time or per month to get this running?

Actual software tends to be more expensive - so back to networks and Shareasale is the most affordable by far! It'd be cheaper to use them rather than a lot of the tracking software that's available..... plus, you'd already have a pool of affiliates (less recruiting required).

MyAffiliateProgram (Kowabunga) software runs $1,000 for setup and then a monthly fee starting at $50.

If this is too expensive, they also offer a lite version called Affiliate Clicks (www.affiliateclicks.com).

So you pay all that, monthly fee AND your affiliates commissions. That adds up to a lot of money. You can join SAS for $150 once off and pay a measely extra few percent on commissions.

Yeah, in my opinions as well ShareASale wins small merchant affiliate programs with lowest pricing, in addition to advantage of consolidated payments for affiliates and easy recruiting for merchants. Not to mention being parasite-free.

Go SAS but promote the heck out of the program.
