transfering a free wordpress page to hosted one
    Hey everyone,

I would like to create a blog and am thinking about creating it as a free word press page in the beginning stages, then in a few months after I have either found I like the content or do not like switch it to a site with a domain and hosting. Is this possible?

    thank-micah

Are you planning on having any affiliate links on it?

You cannot have any affiliates links on a free hosted WP site at WP.

You will have to have your own domain and host to have affiliate links on your WP site.

I would just start out with a domain and a hosted site of my own. Domain names and hosting are real cheap.

If you're going to have a site - why not make some money from it too.

I agree you should jsut go paid first.

Otherwise you might like blogging, right a bunch of content, get it ranked and then not be able to transfer the rankings to your new blog.

I dont believe there is any way to transfer rankings like a 301 redirect on wordpress.com.

Go paid and make a $10 a month commitment. Skip a meal out once a month and that pays for it.

Good advice from the posters in this thread already. Agree 100% with having your own site right from the start.

Also, moved this to the Blogging Forum.

I definitely concur with the other posters - you NEED your own hosting account and domain. The domain should always be purchased from a domain registrar (GoDaddy, Moniker, etc.) and the hosting should be from a company that specializes in hosting (NOT GoDaddy, etc).

I recently noticed that Hostgator, whom several members here seem to recommend, has a new plan for $4.95 per month. However, the plan at $7.95 per month allows a fair amount of growth. They both have a "one click" install of Wordpress available.

Good luck, and do keep us posted on how things work out.
