Using Analytics to Determine if Your Meta Data Sucks
As a power Google Analytics user, I can tell you every combination of keywords that have ever caused anyone to buy, bounce, or bandwith burn. And so can you... It's easy!

But what isn't as clear is what searches your site is showing up for, yet you're not getting the clicks (natural clicks... PPC is another story altogether). So where do you go to find this data, and then what do you do with it?

Google Webmaster Tools is one such solution. Over time, using that tool will start to show you what search terms your site is showing up for in the index, and where you rank.

So supposing you find out that 7% of your "site sightings" (a term I made up to describe you showing up in the SERPs for a real human) are for a keyword that you've never seen traffic for? In other words, no clicks?

I'd take a serious look at your meta title and description for that page, and see if it can be tweaked. You worked hard for the ranking. Now go get the clicks! And your potential customers may well be telling you your meta title and description sucks.

    Questions?

Yeah, I'm throwing a lot of stuff out there during everyone's busy time. My time would be better served writing kayak fishing holiday gift articles. But, the forum needs a jumping off point, so I throw out the occasional nugget.

We can all take a breather and discuss in January.

The Webmaster Tools (how your site ranks) combined with the Analytics (keywords) has helped me to see where the weakness' are as well as given me clues to what words are keepers. Thanks for the tip of where to tweek.

Hmmm. If INet enables that feature, yes. Sadly, you'd still be a Pirates fan.
