Let It Snow... Let It Snow ... In SE TEXAS ????
Supposed to snow down here in South East Texas today. ( Houston / Katy )

    Earliest snow ever ...

Might get an inch or two, with flurries up to 4 or 5 inches...

Any of you Northerners feeling sorry for us?

The whole state is shutting down, more and more every hour.

    Schools are closing..

Freeways are being de-iced, just in case.

    Airports are freaking out..

Dunno how you folks deal with the snow / ice / freezing temps during a real Winter.

We get one or two freezing days a year down here and we cover our plants or gripe that the grass isn't green all year ......

    Nope

I'm not sure there's anything the South can do about the "panic". Dealing with driving and living in snow seriously does take a specific amount of practice. The first snow up here always sends folks into ditches, etc... It calms down a day or two later.

But if you only get it twice a year, I don't think you can develop the skill set.

    Huh? You gotta be kidding.

As Kevin says, you don't get enough for people to acquire the driving skills needed. So - don't panic - stay home for a day or two (you need to catch up on coding anyway). Around here we do get some practice - but not enough, and our city gets panicky. The snow looks nice at first - but soon turns into a grimy, sloppy mess. At least yours melts and goes away quickly. Feel sorry for you? Nope!!!

Oops - forgot a picture. We don't get snow like this very often in Baltimore, just every three or four years. That's one of my former cars under that pile - a red Miata. You can identify it from the mirror as "red" - but that's about it.

Now - just where do think they push all that snow when a plow comes down the street???

Haha. I'm based about 5 minutes south of Lake Michigan. It would take about 2 feet of snow before anything starts considering closing.

I feel for you from up North (near Fort Worth!).

    Gotta love snow in Texas!

We got flurries Monday morning. Nice big flakes, but it was almost 40 so everything melted when it hit the ground. Eventually we accumulated a light dusting on the roofs and the grass and stuff, but then it stopped and it was all gone within about an hour. The roads never got bad.

Up further north they have the equipment to deal with it, so it's really not a problem. About the only bad part is the first snow of the year, when everyone seems to forget how to drive on it. Also, if it's ice instead of snow. That doesn't happen much up north, though -- but is much more frequent in the middle of the country. (Just ask Gary in Springfield, MO -- they've had some horrendous ice storms the last several years!)

Any one want to buy a RED FLYER and go sledding? Also, think about padding your keiser ... put wallet and such in your back pockets so when you fall down it does not hurt.

Wimp! Just one piece of advice, more power is NOT the answer. Probably one of the most entertaining afternoons I ever spent was in Atlanta during an ice storm watching motorist try to power their way up a 5% incline covered with ice. Just remember, torque is not your friend.

Yup, we are hoping for snow in Austin too. I think its a 60% chance, last time I checked. But its only 37 degrees, so it won't last. My 5 year old daughter is excited though.

I think she will be disappointed, I'm sure she's thinking snow like we saw on vacation in New Hampshire last month. I think I heard her talk about snowballs just now...

    Huge flurries happenin' right now.

I think I saw a flake that actually stuck to the car while I was checking fluids a minute ago ..

Been on the phone w/ friends this morn and everyone is waiting on a Kodak moment...

3 yr old grand daughter is having a blast in the backyard w/ her mom right now. Hoping that my 8 yr old stinker is somewhere near a window at school.

She's never seen snow that stuck to the ground....

    Ahhhhh. Good days!

BTW - Some of those pics are scary as could be....

Checking fluids? The only fluids I'm going to check when it snows here tomorrow are the levels in the Jameson and Maker's Mark bottles.

It's actually sticking to everything now and building up..

    I really am snow-stupid.

Never seen snow like this before .....

3 year old is as excited as I've ever seen her.

I wish it snows a bit here in SF Bay Area. My neighbor showed me pictures of snow pics from 40 years ago (apparently it snowed once 40 to 50 years back here)!. So, there is that wild wild chance of a snow once every generation, I guess!. Hope that happens so I can see some snow here

My Dad lives on Big Bear Mountain and says he got 6 inches of snow twice in the last week or so.

I'm sure he would share some with you from his log cabin.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, it snowed here (Sacramento region) yesterday. Sure, it wasn't much, and for the most part it didn't stick very long, but still.

Yes, it is chillier than usual in SF region. I would not be surprised to see a little bit of snow on higher elevations in the bay area. Of course, there is plenty of snow and avalanche warnings in Lake Tahoe/Yosemite areas that are not too far from SF or Sac!
