    Are there Protected Twitter #hashtags?
Since I started my analytics blog, I've been doing some Twitterisms to try to get some eyeballs. I'm running into an issue I've never seen before.

When I use the #analytics hash tag, I simply don't show up for that search.

Has anyone seen this before? I'm not aware of any other hashtag I can't be seen for....

i have never heard of any protected #hashtags...

I think the twitter search function still has some flaws... I use #affiliate a lot and sometimes it shows in a search and sometimes it doesn't.

You can maybe try something like http://twubs.com/analytics for real time search results, but Twitter is still going to have it's bugs.

this is new news to me to get hashtag blocked. It seems like there is a bunch that should be that flood the search results with spammy messages.

If you find that there are, let us know. I have a feeling that some that might have been abused could be blocked.

Yeah, it's interesting. The hashtag #analytics itself seems to work, but I don't get drawn into it.

If they're experimenting with spam prevention, I wish they would've picked a different hashtag

The plot thickens. I have three accounts for 3 very different purposes. Those of you that know will agree that I certainly can't be considered a spammer.

However, of my 3 accounts, only Kevin72 doesn't show up for ANY hashtags I use. The other 2 work just fine.

I wonder what would cause this? (And Jason, I checked in TWUBS. Simply not there...)

Wonder if there's a black list I ended up on....

Just did some more reading on this issue, and it appears as though you can be de-indexed from Twitter Search (Holy Google, Batman!).

Don't know where to jump from here. I'd hate to start a new account, but I guess I could.

I just can't imagine what I would have done. Unless it was because I let the account stay dormant for so long? <shrug> I'll give it another week or so and see where it stands.

Now that you mention this, I did have trouble finding you when I was working on adding people to the new Affiliate Advocacy twitter. Makes sense now.
That was an interesting read Rehan.

Yeah maybe your account has been blocked to post any hash tags.

Do you have any proof that this kind of blocking mechanism actually exists?

    Anat:

It's not that you get blocked from specific hashtags. The account actually gets de-listed from Twitter search. See here:
