THE ROSE BOWL (Jan. 1, 2010) pits PAC-10 Champion Oregon vs Big 10 Champ Ohio State.

The BCS Championship game, at the Rose Bowl is on Jan 7, 2010.

I am not sure that the Longhorns are the best team in their state.

Dead horse beaten...we need a freaking playoff!

ABSOLUTELY - but the bowl promoters and NCAA make so much from the bowl system, they will NEVER change it.

It is completely possible that Cincy or Boise State, or TCU or even Oregon, is now the best team in the country (though it does look like Alabama is rightfully no. 1).

IF the top four bowls were a quarter final, four winners in a semi, and then a final title game, that would be sooooo perfect, especially this year with so many unbeatens.

I read this article the other day, and couldn't agree with it more. Now that would be one heck of a bowl season http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/footbal...yhoo&type=lgns

Let's just keep our fingers crossed that this is implemented some day. Having this tournament in December will trump all other sporting events. It could even be bigger than the March Madness hoops tournament. It is a shame that politics determine a champion and not what happens on the field.

A college football playoff would be huge, as long as they kept the bowl system the same for the other schools I can't imagine anyone complaining about it!

That's one of the key points - the promoters of the bowl games who make millions for their one-day-per-year, along with the NCAA who has its finger in the "bowl" pie, have not just complained, but used their huge power to defeat every attempt to develop a real playoff system, so as not to diminish the interest in each of their games, and thus preserve their self-centered financial interest.

Every college football SHOULD because that is THE reason there is no playoff system - the self-centered individual financial interests of the people and entities that operate each of the major (and most of the second-level) bowl games.

I couldn't agree with you more AH, it is a disgrace. The funny thing is, the colleges would make WAY more money with a playoff system, and create the type of buzz that is reserved for the superbowl and march madness hoops tourney.

Right, Brent, but, unfortunately, it's not the colleges calling the shots, but the businesspeople who operate the bowls completely independent of the schools and the bureaucrats who run the NCAA who call the shots. That's the nut that has to be cracked, and probably the only way to change that is for Congress to step in, which is not necessarily a good idea.

I don't agree that the BCS is the best system by any means, but I don't know that a playoff would be either.

Having a break between the last game and the bowls allows a lot of fans a break and lets them prepare (time off work, $$ etc.) so that they are able to travel and support their team in a bowl game...a playoff system with games week in and week out would make it hard for fans to attend.

I do think though that the BCS bowls could be played earlier and let the winners of each one go into a playoff to decide a national championship...there would be some details to work out with this, but it could be a start.

    Just my thoughts....
