I am running win98SE and see 'SearcH Assistant - My Search' in Add/Remove Programs. I ran Spysweeper, Adaware, Spypot but this one still remained. I tried Removing it using Add/Remove programs but I get an error popup:

res:\\Crogra~1 etc... But there is no such directory in my Program Files.

Any ideas how to get rid of this?

Take a look here, Ian. http://www.kephyr.com/spywarescanner....b/index.phtml Has manual removal info for this piece of garbage. My Search comes bundled with Morpheus, Weatherbug and other dangerous crap. You had to have installed it with full knowledge though. There is the EULA.

Search assistant is just like 1800's spyware, it only collects, transmits & stores your information. It doesn't do anything with it though. Right.

If you are still seeing it in Add/Remove programs, but not seeing an extra toolbar in your browser, it's possible that the program has been uninstalled, but wasn't removed from the Add/Remove list.

Of course, once you really have got it removed, stop using MS IE, so you never get it again!

Was waiting to see how long it would take to hear this from you, DB

Ain't ever going to happen, of course, but have fun with your campaign to get world governments to ban Microsoft.

Thanks all. After a few more spyware removal programs and some manually work, I was able to remove this. In the process I also learned that I can turn off autoinstall in IE. Nice!
