Another vote for filezilla. I was using cuteftp as well but it broke when I upgraded to snow leopard.

Not sure filezilla is any better than CuteFTP though.

I have WS_FTP Pro and FileZilla. I'm using FileZilla about 95% of the time.

I have it set for FTPES-FTP over explicit TLS/SSL. You have to make sure your server is configured to do that. FileZilla has some documentation on your question too.

Chiming in without a real clue here but unless you are sending super sensative information to your server I don't think there is all that much to worry about. I use ssh ftp or sftp and you get more security that way but I don't do it by choice my host requires it.

I think the concerns stem from this thread from a few months ago: WARNING - don't store passwords in FTP programs

I'm risking sounding like a goof here but I am surprised that no one uses the FireFTP add-on for Firefox.

Is there something that I should know about it?

Wow. You know, I think I tried FireFTP some time ago. I just reinstalled it, tried it again -- and have no idea why I quit using it back then?

Thanks for mentioning it. I use FF almost exclusively, and having a FTP client open in a tab is much more convenient than using a separate program.

    I think.

    We'll see.

    Me too, Gary.

I am just wondering if there is some security issue with this or something. Although I have never heard of one.

I've mostly stopped using FTP clients. It always bothered me to open up another program just to copy a file to my server. I use scp for the most part. I've created an alias in my editor (vim) that scp's the buffer over to the proper location on my server. Then if I've got any images that need to be copied I use Terminal. It's much faster for me because I've always got Terminal open anyway. Plus it's nice to avoid fumbling with a mouse clicking around.

For those who don't know, scp is an SSH version of cp which is the Unix/Linux command for copy. For example:

    scp -pr logo.gif user@myserver.com:/path/to/images
