December 26th, 2009, 10:18 PM #1Freeware Genealogy program?
My family is interested in family history and would like me to start a family tree building project.
The thing is I don't want to use a program that will publish my results on the Internet.
I'm interested in a freeware program that I could download to my own computer and just type in names to create a cool looking chart. I checked CNET. The first program listed for windows took over my homepage without permission form me and I had to interact with the Internet which is something I don't want to do.
I just want to create a pretty chart that I can print and give to my Mom
Can anyone recommend a freeware program?

I've used Personal Ancestry File from familysearch.org. It's free and works great.

I've been using Legacy for some time, they have a free version which would suit most needs and the upgrade to "Pro" version is not all that much, especially at the moment as they are on sale.
