Do You Still Have a Landline
After reading This post I got to wondering how many people still have a landline phone. I have been landline free for about 3 years now.

We had a tornado close by about a year ago. All the cell phone lines were jammed. We keep the land line for emergencies, and that's about it. Maybe we'll rethink it during the next decade.

Otherwise, VOIP is great. The service is cheap...2 cents a minute to Europe.

We don't use cells all that much, and mostly while traveling.

We have a landline and a cell phone. If I had a way to get DSL without needing my ATT landline, I'd probably cancel the landline.

some folks can get Verizon DSL with just a copper connection to the house. Don't know much else, though. saw this on their site.

We got rid of the land line last April. We have cell phones and use Skype.
For $30 per year Skype gives us a local phone number and for just under $3.00 monthly we can make all the phone calls we want. No long distance charges. We can even use it over the iPhone when wifi is available.

Keep checking from time to time. We are with a little local phone company and they let us have only DSL.

2 Cells and Cable Internet. I would have dropped my landlines long again but was living in an area where dial-up was my only internet option.

I've got a landline for emergencies only, but I hate it. The basic, no-frills service costs $13.99 a month, which sounds reasonable. The actual bill? Over $26. They tack on so many fees and taxes that they're almost more than the service itself.

When we move into our next house, we'll not be getting a landline.

Land line with DSL at our City house and land line at our beach place for the security and fire alarm systems. I never use that one to receive calls - but occasionally use it to call the sub shop with a carry out order.

I still have land lines for my business & toll free customer service numbers -

Problem with the Magic Jack is that it isn't that reliable.

Breaks up - static - I hear YOU - Can YOU hear me?

Land lines are crisp and dependable.

But that $19.95 a year stuff works great on my 3 home lines ...

    EDIT!!!!

I do have to have a land line for my security too!

I'm trying to get a land line installed. Internet access here is still expensive and/or slow so VOIP isn't really a good option.

Still have a land line. We live in a rural area where cell transmission isn't as reliable as we'd like. Also our land line service is bundled with our high speed cable internet and cable TV so it's only about $25/month. I call that cheap insurance.

My land line with DSL is my internet backup and my (fringe area) cellphone backup. Unfortunately, necessary.

Landline for my DSL, security system and emergency. Power outages and the landline is the only one can depend on to be working.

In all of 2009, used the landline exactly 3 times.. I remember as each time it was to report a power outage to the utility company. Otherwise it is Skype and cellphones

We have a landline. I want the ability to pick up the phone, dial 911, and have them know where I am in an emergency.

Land line here only because we are still stuck on dial-up. Have not had an actual phone plugged into it for about 4 years. Once I finally decide to take the plunge and get satellite internet, that land line will be gone.

None of our 5 kids have land lines in their homes.
