Amazon hired Udi Manber, formerly from Yahoo, to develop a search engine, that they claim can better serve results based on your buying habits on Amazon.com. Sure, more shoppers for Amazon, but can this really take off? It also looks like they'll push another toolbar...
The question of privacy is answered in the article, but I know many people will still have a problem with their searching and browsing habits being stored on Amazon's servers...
If they integrate a product search into it somehow, will this make Amazon even more pointless to promote as an affiliate? I think the answer is obvious

It will be A9 vs. Froogle, NOT A9 vs. Google.

it would be vs. Froogle if it were to be a product search engine, but it's not... it will, supposedly, be a separate entity from Amazon. Of course, they'll find a way to tie it into shopping, but the search engine itself will be competing w/ not only Google, but Yahoo, MSN, AOL, etc...

I did miss this the first time through:

quote:
Interestingly, it uses Google's search results -- Amazon and Google have a longstanding search deal -- but builds on them with an elegant set of features that, taken together, make A9 seem like a new way to search.
