Just got an email from Google Adsense that they are now offering images as well. Trouble for me is they seem really big....

    Sizes like 468x60, 728x90, 120x600, and 300x250.....

    Message from Google:
    Google AdSense™ Announcement:
    Introducing image ads

    Hello,

Google is very pleased to introduce a new feature to your AdSense account.
    Image ads

Now, in addition to text ads, you can choose to show highly-targeted image ads on your web pages. Unlike traditional banner ads, Google's image ads are contextually targeted to the content of your page, providing your users with a high impact, high value advertisement - and providing you with the opportunity to earn more revenue.

For the full details about image ads, please read our What's New page at https://www.google.com/adsense/new.

    How to contact us

If you have questions or comments about this new feature, or about the AdSense program in general, please email us at adsense-support@google.com. One of our specialists will be happy to help.

    Sincerely,

    The Google Team

Will try it out. Problem is, I don't any advertisers have images yet, don't think many will.

I'll try it on a page and see if it affects the load time. Kinda concerned about what kinds of images might show up.

Just pondering are the froogle results going to be used and is this googles way of turning it mainstream, in turn hurting the affiliate marketing end of things
Are we in turn helping them work against us over time

Walleye what are you talking about? Froogle results are free results, what shows thru Adsense on our sites are Adwords ads.

My point being they need to get froogle established and profitable somehow.
Is this the beginning of their long term plans to impliment it towards making money?
    They have to start somewhere

okay, but how are they going to pay affiliates for showing free ads from froogle? It doesn't make sense. And these are banners, it would be easier to do what you suggest throught the text links, not creating graphical banners for free, for merchants not paying google. That just doesn't make sense.

Walleye, Froogle has nothing to with Adsense or Google allowing advertisers to use graphics with their ads.

I think i'll keep the text ads, here are some examples:

    https://adwords.google.com/select/imagesamples.html

Basically i use Adsense on one of my sites and can decide if i want ads showing that look like the examples above(graphics) or text ads. Can do a test and see which one converts better. So basically it's a choice between a text ad or a banner ad and you can decide which you rather have showing on your site. You might choose to allow graphic ads on your site but if there are none available, they will be text ads.

As an advertiser (me using Adwords to get traffic to my site) i can choose to use a graphic like the examples above that would show on content sites, not the Google Search Results.

So as an advertiser if you use text ads, which everyone is doing now with Adwords they will show on:
    Google search results
Content sites (sites that use adsense)

If you choose to use graphics they will show on:
Content sites (sites that use adsense) that have opted in to allow graphic ads.

If you have an AdWords account, just login and it will explain everything.

Those aren't bad looking ads... my biggest fear is that you can't control what the ads look like and I think most of the ones that people will create will look like crap IMO

Also using text there are more choices for users to click. You can have someting like 5 different text ads or 1 banner in the same space.
