    What Affiliates REALLY Want
    Hello All

I'm glad to be part of the group. I'm new to working with affiliates and know that it is the KEY to help grow my business. I joined so I can find out what affiliates REALLY want ( besides money of course) so I can be sure to provide it when I officially announce my affiliate offering.

Your suggestions, comments, and ideas are always welcome

    TxJackie

You might want to cruise through this section, http://forum.abestweb.com/forumdisplay.php?f=412 , Merchant Best Practices Forum. Ton of great information in there, as well as the rest of the site.

Pull up a chair, have a seat, look around. The best way to lean from this forum is through participation. Use the search, ask questions, plenty of people here willing to help. Best of luck with your program. After you get comfortable you might want to consider a program announcement here. I'd suggest doing some reading and participating before the announcement. You really do want to be ready for that to go well.

If you want run own affiliate then give your customers good commission , participation process, how to use, how user can earn, how can implement on his site. These points should be.

For affiliates is more than money important, that ALL their sales were correctly tracked and they got commissions for ALL referred sales.

e.g. in our affiliate program in the past we had problem, that often one sale was referred by multiple affiliates and only one was honored for sale (first or last).... our affiliates complained about it and we were forced to implement splitting of commissions between all affiliates, which referred sale

Welcome TxJackie. Nice to have another TX here. There are several of us here.

Lots of info on the board. Read some of the threads and you will learn what is important to the affiliates. Money is important but they have to trust your program first.

    Steaks! I can do that.

Two nights in a row now staying up until 2 am reading all the "best practices" for merchants" and other posts. I'm learning as fast as I can.

this info is great. But I don't understand the lingo for some of it - deeplinks, parasites,

Knowing the size banners i need to provide is very helpful. I've got my graphics design guy working on that. I would have never thought that you would not want the URL on it == but now I understand why.

It will all help me put together a good affiliate program.

    I appreciate the feedback.

    TxJackie

They want trust. Trust that your pages will convert for them and that you will be an honest, hands-on merchant that listens to their needs.

    Affiliates want:

    1. Something resembling support from a network. Sorry, but CJ, Linkshare and GAN need to initiate something that approaches the dictionary definition of the word.

    2. Basic reporting tools. Amazingly, GAN has nothing resembling support, and they don't have a report that tells me which merchants owe me how much and for how long. I dropped all GAN merchants two months ago.

    3. Networks that don't threaten their affiliates (read; treat us like humans). I removed all my CJ links except for one, because I had a $39 balance, and you need $50 to get paid. Two days ago, I reached $54 (meaning I'll get paid), so I was sooooooooo happy when I pulled my last CJ link.

    4. Timely payments and response to email. My last Linkshare merchant hasn't paid for last December yet. I emailed them on 2/5 - no response. I terminated them this morning.

    5. More Networks like Shareasale that GET IT!!

Funny…we just sent out a questionnaire a few weeks ago directly to our publishers to find out what they wanted. The most common answers were 1) Accurate reporting 2) Instructions for running video CPA offers (we put up video tutorials to help there) and 3) On time payments 4) More offers that accept international traffic

Some people consider information from a couple years ago to be outdated. Not much has changed as far as what merchants need to do to have a successful affiliate program. The specific types of creatives may be changing and growing, but the basic tenants are still very much the same.
