Been away a couple of days. Checked my email this morining and all my webmaster email addresses are sending out an email for me. I unfortuneately work alone, so I know I didn't do it. But here is the message:

Folks, like I said I've been physically unable to have sent this email message to anyone. I did not authorize it, don't know what article is meant.

I do have a page in my website pushing a few very good products to use to surf and shop on the web with, however... And I don't use email method to solicit my site like this.

Has any one else had a problem like this and how do I go about finding out what's really happening here?

    I'm being driven wacky today..

The message is itself a virus called Sober.G - do NOT open the attachment that comes with it.

The From: address is fake, and everything else is carefully constructed to look as if it's a real message, but it isn't.

Thank you folks for your replys here.

Pardon my ineffectionous to understand what exactly is meant by "ojmoo? Trustno1, (love your handle)

I know what I've done. What's been done has mostly been out of my control... Get this.. Shit happens! in life for some...This is life..my job..my webmaster email address at my domain is spamming, and doing things that are against the ethical rules I follow.

I feel like I'm having sex without the right protection! I use the products I affiliate sell on my website and they haven't evidently caught this for me or something.

Everything has been acting up lately, like life. The from address is my working webmaster email account, it's not fake...so I'm getting bashed very bad personally from my friends, and against my affiliate and associates publishing agreements. Making me, personally, doing infringements that could cost me a lot.

Where do I look for assistance for this webmaster problem?

Besides go back to basic CYA, oops, I left a door open..

No no no no - the From: address *is* fake, even though it's your email address, the mail *didn't* originate from you. It's trivially easy to fake the From: address.

What it does mean is that a mutual contact between you and the person receiving the virus (or this could happen the other way around) has the virus. Sober.G scans their hard disk looking for email addresses to send To: and From: and picks them at random.

If you send out a newsletter, then there's a good chance you'll get LOTS of these being sent and received. This is the way these viruses work, and you're in the same boat as millions of others.

Just make sure you're anti-virus software updates every day and you regularly visit Windows Update, plus you have a firewall, then you should be OK.

To use your analogy the other way - somebody if off having protected sex with somebody else and then boasting they had it with you.. that's the way these viruses work.

Added: you can find the "shity virus" reference here - http://www.f-secure.fr/v-descs/sober_g.shtml

Strictly speaking, the "From:" address has been "spoofed" rather than faked.
