February 23rd, 2010, 09:34 AM #1Locked Baseline Commission for Merchants
Was just reading this thread, and there was something said in the first post I want to address in its own thread...as it relates to our network. (please read the first post at least from the thread linked to above for context)The other networks are hidding this kind of information.
Once a merchant sets a baseline commission or cookie life as part of their program terms, these are locked and cannot be adjusted by the merchant. This is to protect the Affiliate's interest because after all they agreed to certain terms, and a bait and switch move by any merchant will not be tolerated.
If a merchant wants to lower a baseline payout, or cookie duration that was promoted for any period of time, then there is a process involved. This process includes making a notification to all Affiliates that their payout or cookie life will be lowered, and then Affiliates have 30 days to accept or decline those new terms before they are automatically applied.
So there you have it

BTW Zeus, still love ya I am just making sure it's clear that not ALL networks allow (or hide) negative payout/cookie adjustments.

Gary, I'm glad you have something to protect your affiliates. I'm provocative, I know it. I'm not trying to blast the networks but more to warn the affiliates. It's so sad to see so many affiliates ending their activities because they can't make it anymore. There's so much going on behind the screen. Thanks for your explanations.

Generalizations are always wrong.
Glad to hear how Avantlink handles that. I like it!
