    Question Wordpress / Web Service Datafeed Client
    Greetings,

    Is there a tutorial or plugin that enabled people who use wordpress to embed the webservice datafeed client?

    Thanks!

    Hi Magi,

    Thanks for the post. Actually the web service datafeed client is a stand alone product much like wordpress, so you can't embed that tool into wordpress.

    My advice for a best practice is to install the web service feed on the same site(s) where you have wordpress.. and then just work on linking to categories, product groups and even product level pages through editorials/posts. This article is relevant, and you might find it helpful.

    Ok so theres no EZ way of inserting the WP theme / layout around the dataclient / template file ?

    My PHP skills are at newbie level so its going to take alot of playing around to figure it out ... maybe someone else out there on ABW land has created a solution and will post!

    Magi, Unfortunately no you have to handle the template.html by hand to make it conform to an existing site theme/layout.

    Try taking the source code of the theme, renaming/saving that source code to template.html and then just inserting the variables for the feed output which are:
    • [PAGE_TITLE] (title tag variable)
    • [PAGE_KEYWORDS] (meta keyword variable)
    • [PAGE_DESCRIPTION] (meta description variable)
    • [PAGE_NAVIGATION] (navigation variable that will output a set of links to the top level categories)
    • [PAGE_CONTENT] (main page content variable)
    • [HIT_TRACKING] (hit code tracking variable)

    Hope that helps.

    You can make the template look any way you want it to look.

    Nursing Scrubs Shop in my signature is using the webservice datafeed client from Avantlink.

    Well I dont want to remake a template file if I change themes in WP. Also having a sidebar with your latest posts, comments is ou la la ..

    Here is my solution so far .. this is working but doesnt have good Title/Meta tags, just the default blog / wordpress stuff ..

    Code:
    <?php

    // Include Wordpress
    define('WP_USE_THEMES', true);
    require('./../wp-load.php');

    get_header();
    get_sidebar();
    echo '<div class="postContent">';
    include('shop.php');
    echo '</div>';
    get_footer();

    ?>
    Created a Test.php file, added that code above, this is also in the same folder that the shop.php is in ..

    Deleted alot of items that were in the template.html file ...

    WP is on the root of the site, the dataclient is in its own folder

    ----

    I believe there is a way to dynamically change the Title, Meta Tags but I'm not that experienced with WP nor PHP. I'm trying to figure that out at the moment...

    In your template file in the web service client add the meta tags you want.

    Example:

    Code:
    <title>[PAGE_TITLE], Buy [PAGE_TITLE]</title>
    <meta name="description" content="[PAGE_TITLE]. Buy [PAGE_TITLE]. [PAGE_TITLE].">
    <meta name="keywords" content="[PAGE_TITLE], [PAGE_TITLE]">

    That wont work for what I'm doing with the data client.

    ----

    What I have to figure out now is how to add that test file directly into the Shop.php file ..

    And also figure out the variables that are in Wordpress for Title, Description, Keywords and change that in shop.php ..

    Hey, I was wondering if you figured this out. I'm trying to do the same thing you are. I am able to make the template from wordpress appear at the url of my web service data client but no store or avantlink content. Did you get this working and if so could you help me out.

    Thanks,
    Michael

    Have you asked Avantlink for support? They are usually very quick to help if there's a way to do things.
