Question How should I handle my "Pyramid Friend?"
I have an Internet friend who has entertained me virtually over the Internet for many years. This person lives in a different country and I genuinely like [or used to like] this person.

Recently I have been bombarded by this person with e-mails for a Pyramid scheme

The e-mails basically say that I am one of the lucky exclusive people to learn about his recent involvement in a fantastic company venture that I certainly would not want to miss out on the chance to join considering that the "start up cost [to join "the team"] is only a one-off $54."

It's not funny anymore. I am getting almost daily solicitations from this person and I know it's a pyramid scheme.

Spam mail from an unknown is easy to delete *but* this is a person who I considered to be a good Internet friend even though we have not met in person.

If they are on a chat system I'd just ping them and have a quick word, it is still amazing how many people think these things are reall and that they are doing you a favour... also consider they may have picked up a trojan that is spawning these from their email account without their knowledge to their whole contact list.

I am getting almost daily solicitations from this person and I know it's a pyramid scheme.
Considering the above, I think the later may well be the case. Is it the same email every time?

    Cheers

if you don't want to confront him i'd put a filter on your email that picks up the $54 or the name of the activity so they get filtered automatically to the garbage can

    or

just come out and tell him. Say that you don't mix money and friends and you value their friendship and would appreciate it if he'd not share the opportunity with you again

Tough spot! Wish you luck in whatever you chose to do.

No, it's not the same email each time.
I just received a new email from this person for the new "Corporate Site"
I took one look at it and my suspicion is confirmed.

This person has tried to get me into pyramid plans before

I'm ignoring the emails, I don't know what to do.

"I'm ignoring the emails, I don't know what to do."

That, just delete it. Tell him to stop sending you that crap, if he persists, delete him.

Anybody who is any kind of friend, even an 'internet friend' should respect your wishes and stop.

Once they really believe you aren't buying, I would think they would give up and move on to someone else.

Rhia7 - A tough spot to be in. I would let them know that I just wasn't interested. If they are TRULY your friend then saying "not interested" should be the end of it. If they get angry and end the relationship, then they weren't really your friend at all.

Which is more important to them? You being part of this pyramid scheme or your friendship.

Good luck, hope it all works out for you.

Too bad it's not somebody local.

I told the last person who badgered me with that stuff that I'm "really very busy and can't talk right now. Can you stop by tomorrow sometime between 10 and 2?"

"I can't come at that time of day; I work form 8 til 5. I have to be at work."

    "I don't"

That one got the clue lol.

I would tell him to stop and if he sends another email, filter all emails from him to the trash can.

Tough spot to be in Rhia7. Hope it works out for you.

Follow your instinct. You're a pretty smart cookie, I think you can figure out what's what.

    Dear friend.

I just wanted to let you know you seem to have a virus in your computer. I keep getting spammy emails from someone pretending to be you, trying to get me to sign up for a pyramid scheme. I know you're too smart to fall for something like that, so it has to be a virus.

    Thanks Missdonna

He's done this to me before
The first time he tried this he wrote in an email "Click on the link for the infopack."

Infopack? What the heck do you mean?
He had never written that way before and once I got into a dialogue with him he insisted that his pyramid scheme [okay he didn't refer to it that way] was the latest and great since sliced bread -- and now he's coming after me with full force

Oh dear, I lost a friend -- in the past he was always real.

I wrote a long article on my blog about this. Now when a friend tells me about a great new program and then I learn its a "Pyramid" scheme I just send him to the article. Saves me time explaining it over and over again.

Just be grateful you don't have someone you know in-person trying to get you into a pyramid scheme, especially family. That is the worst.

Yes, that is hard. Especially since you have to be careful on how you explain why its not good. It is easy to offend someone and hurt their feelings when they are so pumped about something.

He's still at it. He just sent me:
Did you have a look at the videos on the site I sent you?
    - What did you like best about it?

You can also see the compensation plan here:

I guess you just gotta tell him, in the nicest possible way, of course, that you really are NOT interested in the business opportunity or whatever he's calling it. Tell him you appreciate his enthusiasm and hope it works for him -- but it absolutely isn't something you're interested in.

Hi, Yes I took a brief glance at the videos and nothing interested me in them. The compensation plan is interesting but I am making far more in my affiliate marketing efforts and will only be concentrating my efforts there.
