WP - Special Characters in Title
superCool likes to put hyphens in his post and page titles. for example: "this is a super great post - buy something". it seems that WP replaces the hyphen with the unicode value ( & #8211; ). this sometimes shows in the page title on Google. is there any way to avoid this? superCool also tried the > sign but it seemed to do the same thing. superCool has seen lots of > < etc.. in titles, so how come his are looking funky?

any suggestions on how to control this or a safe way to add separation between segments of a title?

    thanks

FYI - it looks like this might be theme related (or possibly db), so probably not a global issue

superCool will follow up on that side and see what happens

    thanks

WP creates URLs from the title. Have you tried creating your own permalinks? If you do this, perhaps it will let your hyphens stand in your title. Also, if you use something like the All in One SEO plugin you have the ability to create your own optional (cool) titles - something like that might help.

Usually that is a Charset issue. If your theme header is declaring content to be UTF-8 (WP default) and you are using Unicode that can get a funky browser translation. I always try to remember to format my posts in utf-8 to avoid weird characters.
