I've had the weirdest issues with my mail lately, but the one that really beguiles me is where Outlook Express goes and pops my mail and returns the below in the preview pane ... but it is listed correctly with the From and subject in the listings. I'm

    Not sure, but try this:

Tools/Options/Read/ check "Automatically download messages when viewing in
    preview pane"

If it is checked, uncheck, shut down OE, restart and do step one.

    defanjos,

Thanks for the reply, have download set as default, and did try to toggle it to get the "lost" messages, but to no avail.

Thats why I swapped to Microsoft Outlook.

I like all the bells and whistles that go with it, it just took about a month for me to get used to the darned thing.

I like Outlook Express too (but then, it never did THAT to me)...

I have my email set to Never open messages in the preview pane--or even show the preview pane, for that matter! This is because I read that viruses can autorun if the preview pane is active.

Maybe disabling the preview pane will fix that weird glitch, too?

Get a Gmail account, I now use only the 1/3 part of time in managing email than using Outlook Express.

Seriously, Gmail webmail is faster than outlook on overall task times, plus movile!

OE may be having a problem with the specific email it is trying to preview because the file is damaged and it can't read it. Or not.

    First thing I'd do is:

File >> Folder >> Compact All Folders

If that doesn't fix the problem, then delete the message that's causing the problem and see if OE can display the rest of the messages in the preview pane.

And yes, viruses can be transmitted through an open preview pane. Best to keep that closed.

This is a common issue with OLE. If you google it there are some explanations ranging from HTML issues to corrupt IE/OLE files. The latter needs a new download of IE to fix the OLE problem.

We tried to be more specific with the answer, but searching gave us a migraine, as microsoft is well, microsoft.

Here is their trouble shooting link. Start there, take 2 aspirin and post us in the morning.
