Next week I'll be spending a weeks vacation in the states, hoping to get a lot of fishing done with my Uncle who's up in Wisconsin, just wondering where you guys go shopping for computer products. Thanks.

It might be interesting to try shopping online through an affiliate marketer. Hundreds of people do it every year.

Otherwise, I make the 120 mile round-trip to Staples to pick up cards, printers, & other peripherals. You have to know what you need & what will work though when you go to an office supply store. The computer saleperson was selling shoes last week & will be tending bar next.

    Enjoy your visit!

CompUSA has the largest selection I have found at low prices.

Target and Walmart have horrible selections on computer products. Best Buy has a good selection, but you will be offered the extended warranty a minimum of 6 times before you leave.

Maddox warns everyone of compusa (in a hilarious manner) at maddox.xmission.com (warning: offensive)

Depends on what you want to buy.
I needed some cat5 cable, went to comusa checked their prices, walked across the parking lot went into office depot, and they had the excact same cable $15.00 cheaper. Like anything else you will have to price shop first, to get your best deal.

CompUSA and BestBuy are good retailers. I usually buy my hardware gear from Tiger Direct. For paper, accessories, etc., I go to Staples.

I made my last few purchases online from zipzoomfly.com. Great prices, fast shipping (plus usually free), etc..

Don't have alot of choices where I live, but for stuff gotten in person I generally use Staples. Somewhat surprisingly, for printers and scanners, their prices are pretty much the same as if you purchased online. Better yet - they will price match ANY online item, too. Have gotten some nice deals this way. Other choices I like off-line, but which aren't near where I live, are Best Buy and CompUSA.

CompUSA is good for computer hardware and media, usually some sort of special going on. Best Buy seems to have one of everyting but selections is sometimes limited depending on what your looking for.

TigerDirect is great if you can wait and your not killed with shipping.

I shop Compusa in San Francisco. I can't stand going in the place, but the selection works for me and I don't get bothered inside by salespeople.

I also get good refurb products online at unityelectronics.com or computergeeks.com

Just recently purchased a Plextor DVD burner from unity. Worked like a charm.

(disclaimer: I happen to know the principals of both)
