Fess Parker, 'Davy Crockett,' dies at 85
Most CJ affiliates have seen Fess at CJU each year.

That's a shame. While most people knew him as Daniel Boone, he made his money in real estate since he got practically nothing from the TV show.

While a name like Fess Parker had to come from a Hollywood mogul for a he man actor, his real name was Fess Elisha Parker Jr. I wonder if anybody names there child Fess anymore.

He owned a ranch across the road from a friend of mine in the Santa Ynez Valley.
He also owned two hotels in Santa Barbara County.
DoubleTree was at the beach and hosted CJU.
The other was in Los Alivos across the street from that restaurant featured in the movie "Sideways"

Well, he actually did make a substantial amount of money in his show biz career. While he is best remembered as Davy Crockett and was a Disney contract player getting a relatively small weekly salary then in the 1950s, he was still a name performer in the 1960s and 1970s, starring in three later tv series (Daniel Boone, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, and a variety program), several movies, other tv appearances, and he continued his musical career.

He did make money from real estate, primarily from operating his Santa Barbara resort, but he also did extremely well with his winery, and they still sell coonskin caps.
