Is Open Directory still being updated? Is there anyone here an editor for this?

    Last info I could find
The last info I could find:

On October 20, 2006, the ODP's main server suffered a catastrophic system failure[6] that prevented editors from working on the directory until December 18, 2006. During that period, an older build of the directory was visible to the public. On January 13, 2007, the Site Suggestion and Update Listings forms were again made available.[7] On January 26, 2007, weekly publication of RDF dumps resumed. To avoid future outages, the system now resides on a redundant configuration of two Intel-based servers.

I wish this was April 1 and I would tell you how wonderful DMOZ is. That directory has been a joke for 5+ years now. It wouldn't bother me except that pages listed within it get a boost in the rankings. No accountability, no accessibility. Can you tell I don't like DMOZ?

I haven't been on that site for years and I thought I would check it out Cheeshead. I checked out some of the listed sites and they appear ok. I was looking for something and I thought I would check it out at DMOZ.

I have seen sites being updated in certain categories like iphone apps, blogs, and I am sure a few other newer and hot techie related categories that I have no clue about but are not saturated in the old database yet.

Seem they are pretty active in other countries:

Trust summed it up well at http://www.abestweb.com/forums/showp...0&postcount=11 with

    blah, blah, blah, blah
we like to remain a dated directory with most categories needing editors and broken links, we love linking to sites that don't exist anymore
    blah, blah, blah, blah

And I have at least one content site miles better than what they list. That is a big reason for my dislike of DMOZ.

DMOZ is very easy to hate. You can submit a site and hold your breath for eternity, because some categories just don't get edited, and the editors in any case will no longer respond to queries about status (for a while, they had a forum for that).

Still, it's worth a quick submit, just in case you get lucky. DMOZ is still used by some of the search engines.

DMOZ, the largest human edited directory always tests our patience.
