For those who have Yahoo for email, today all free accounts are supposed to be bumped up from 4 MB to 100 MB today in response to what Google is doing with GMail.

Just signed up for a new one and the 100MB is showing now.

Will Yahoo be applying search technologies to read the content of the emails like Google plans to do or just use your profile information for serving ads as in the past?

Yahoo says that they, too, will keep your emails on their servers even after you delete them, the same as Google. So remember, you can't ever really get rid of anything you may have written in haste.

When you use this, keep in mind that your email can be read by government agencies without you ever receiving any notification that they have been read thanks to the Patriot Act. This does NOT require a court order nor do they have to show cause to believe a crime has been commited to read your communications.

Additionally, I would think, divorce lawyers and so forth can subpoena them. This is not like a letter you can write and burn later if you regret it. I suppose, even email you receive where you have no control over the contents will be in your email just about forever.

Always consider your email as public and use it accordingly.

This morning I had that in my yahoo account:
    Virtually unlimited storage
A whopping 2GB means you should never have to worry about managing storage again! Keep thousands of messages, photos, and documents – think of it as your online archive.
Yes, they moved my 100 MB account to 2GB.
I was short with my 100 MB (full 98%) so I've plenty of space to store all my junk.

Chris how did you get a Gmail account? I don't see anything logging in or email about it.

If you know the right person who has some invites to offer, you can get an account. My friend just gave me an invite the other day in exchange for one of the invites I'll get for activating the account. You can always go buy one on Ebay if all else fails

If anyone is interested, they can buy a GMail account from me (e-mail me at jasonpg@gmail.com). That's not why I posted though.

Did anyone see the Slowness/downtime for Google.com/Yahoo.com/MSN.com this morning/afternoon? Apparently AKAMAI, the content host for some of the Internet's largest sites got attacked hardcore today. I work at an ISP, we couldn't reach Google for hours intermitantly.

My Yahoo account was upgraded to the 100MB today, I didn't even realize they were doing it. Now it's just that much longer I can go before I have to clean it out, haha.

Same here with the login problems.
The free accounts went from 4 MB to 100 MB and the paid accounts went to 2 GB.
100 MB is plenty for me. I've been using 2 MB hotmail accounts for newsletter sign ups and stuff like that so 100 MB is more than enough for what i need.

Also dl the latest version of the Yahoo Messenger, haven't used that in over a year or two. Very nice with instant email notification, calendar, launchcast internet radio (nice and clear) and a bunch of other stuff.

    TRust

I think it came from my Mondera Adsense Account, there was an apply for account option there under my Google account and I clicked it about a month back.

I've not seen an invitation system.

    Cheers

I was having trouble accessing my Yahoo mail on the road today. When I finally got into my Yahoo mail I found this new alert from ZDnet.com. And yes, my free Yahoo mail account limit has been thankfully been raised to 100 MB. But still having access problems. Lately getting this message:
    *****************************************
There was a problem accessing your account.
We recommend clicking the "Refresh" or "Reload" button on your browser's toolbar. If this doesn't correct the problem, re-login to your account. If the problem persists, click here to send us a report.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
    *****************************************

Don't know if this is related to the DNS and web blackout problems as reported by ZDnet.com and others. I have always had good luck with my Yahoo email acount and nothing but praises for their free email offering. Hope today's glitch is due to the upgrade.

    Blackout hits major Web sites

    http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1105-5234500.html

A domain name outage Tuesday morning that left many popular Web sites, including those of Yahoo, Google, Microsoft and Apple, temporarily inaccessible was the result of an Internet attack, according to Web infrastructure company Akamai...
Since early Tuesday morning, users have been reporting glitches with Yahoo Mail such as site inaccessibility, slow page loads and inoperable buttons on the site. A Yahoo spokeswoman said the company is "investigating the potential impact of a widespread DNS issue on our services." But launch-related bugs are also a possibility.
