    Hosting and POP3 Advice Needed
I have a client who hosts his website with a very unreliable webhost. I want to move the website to a different hosting company. My client doesn't mind if the website is down for a short while during the changeover, but it is absolutely vital that his e-mail continues to work.

He has his own Exchange Server in the office, but his POP3 accounts are hosted by another Internet company for security.

When you ping "myclientsdomain.com" and "www.myclientsdomain.com" they resolve to different IP addresses.

I've never done system administration and I'm a bit out of my depth.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Am I correct to assume that if I point the domain's DNS servers to the new hosting company the website can be hosted there without any impact on the current e-mail setup?

Any ideas about why "myclientsdomain.com" and "www.myclientsdomain.com" resolve to different IP addresses?

If the email is on a different server than the hosting, the email should be unaffected.

If the www. and not www. resolve to different IPs, that is a reason to run from that host. You said they were unreliable, that could be one reason why. DNS should be set up so both versions resolve to the same place.

Remember to set up the new site/host first, let the change propagate for a few days, and only when all is well on the new site should you shut down the old one.

As long as the Exchange server , the POP3 host, AND the DNS server[s] IP addresses remain the same, and no DNS changes are made to anything other than the website host, mail should continue without interruption...

I have SiteGround and their hard drive crashed this week. It was a miserable experience. All is better now...I hope.
