April 23rd, 2010, 05:06 PM #1Big Product Feed Change For May
GAN sent a two part announcement today and it's the second part that has me scratching my head.(2) In
addition we want to alert you to the fact that next month we will be
changing the format for Product Feeds. In May, the Product Feeds for
all advertisers will be sent to you as zip compressed files. Please keep an eye out for that upcoming change and let us know if you have any questions.
Please visit ourHelp Center or contact oursupport team with any questions.

Why do something like this with only a weeks notice and an indefinite due date. The "support team" link is a form dead end that has no option concerning this subject. You can't use the form. Come on GAN let's work together here.

John, I interpreted it differently than you did but I think the email is ambiguous. Right now there are 3 options, zip, txt, gz. I thought they were trying to say that in the future the only option will be gz.

zip compressed files I'm thinking .zip. If they would have said gzip comparessed files then .gz would be right. Hope you are right and it's just vague. gzip from wiki

I got that vague Google email today and was left with the same question of exactly when does the switch over take place.
As you probably already know, Linux servers do have an "unzip" command so it is possible to uncompress .zip files (see "man unzip"). But, as you say, it will require some modification to any csh/bash script that you're using.
I hope Google sends a followup email saying exactly when the switch over will occur. I'm sure a lot of affiliates will be asking for clarification.

Since they offer both Zip and Gz already you could control the switch over date by re-coding and setting the format change yourself?
Thanks for highlighting that change I had missed it in the email.

Sent Jamie a PM on this to try and get some clarity.
