    Snake Tail On My Head
As I went out the door this morning something hit the side of my head and right away I knew it was a snake and jumped. I looked back and the tail of a 3 foot long snake was dangling in the doorway. The snake was still happily across the top of the storm door frame.

I had to make a little run to town in a hurry and expected he would be gone an hour and a half later. He was still there and posed for some pictures. He is after the green frogs that hang out by the window that is next to the door.

I guess it's better than a snake head on your tail.

Don't know why that cracked me up big time.

And an Awesomeness Award from SuperCool so my day is made.

It appears to be a common water snake. I looked around online and that's the closest but not exact ID.

We have a ton of them around here. They're harmless (unless you're a small rodent or have a weak heart).

It's a rat snake that's soon to shed it's skin. Might be female and carrying eggs, too.

I don't know if I'd ever be able to walk through that door again. We have snakes around too, but we also put crunched up moth balls around the yard and outside of the house. It seems to work to keep the snakes away.

if he's been up there before you might add another piece of trim above the door to keep him from sitting there. something sloped outward so he can't sit there without sliding off.

superCool digs snakes, but that's a bit too much

I agree with John, I'd have done a lot more than jump! How'd it get on top of the door frame?? SuperSnakes can slither up walls?

Michael nailed it as they climb bricks easily. That's not the first snake to get up there.

My last snake encounter was on a golf course near Monterey CA. I whacked my drive off into the rough (a typical shot for me) and went to go find my ball. I found another abandoned ball that I was going to add to my collection, since I lose a lot. When I reached down to pick it up I finally saw the snake move a couple inches from my hand. "Nevermind, you keep it!"

Didn't stick around long enough to see what kind it was or find my ball.
