    Don't Feed a Puppy Banana
Yesterday I was making my morning breakfast, which consists of a bowl of organic granola cereal and milk topped with half a sliced banana. As I am preparing my food, I look down and the see the puppy eyes of a 3 pound chihuahua staring back at me patiently. So I fold like a cheap suit and throw down 3 slices of banana.

Oh my word. The loose poop is running like a faucet. Thankfully the dog is confined to the kitchen during the day. I called the vet and he said that the natural sugar in a banana will cause this in little dogs.

This has been a SeymourButts Public Service Announcement.

Thanks for the info. My wife and I have a BichonPoo and his stomach is sensitive to people food (we rarely feed the little guy people food). I'll add Banana to the no feed list.

Little dogs seem to have sensitive stomachs.

Good thing you don't have a Great Dane or something.
If there is anything worse than having a dog with diarrhea, it is having a big dog with diarrhea.

    Uh oh! Too late.

I gave my dog 1/4 of a banana today just this morning.

Bananas are his favorite but he is medium sized about 28 lbs. I didn't know that about the natural sugars. He usually gets couple of slivers but like you I succumbed to the big brown eyes this morning when no one was watching...

The good thing is he is very good about doing his business outside.

All I need is a smart dog!

I am not a veterinarian. FYI, also do not feed chocolate to dogs/cats/animals (see: Theobromine poisoning). Also no ASA (toxic to cats) or any other human medication. Again, I'm not a veterinarian.

Our dog likes peanut butter and still poops ok.

She also likes carrots and they don't bother her either.

Peanut butter is our favorite way to give meds. Stick the pill into a spoonful of PB and the dog is happy to take them. We buy cheapo stuff for the dog and keep it separate from the people PB. With two dogs, double dipping their own jar was easier than worrying about dog germs.

So now your puppy seems to have become a poopy. I will remember that. I am the one that distributes the handouts to our dog.
