    Noindex For Categories and Tag Archives?
    I just noticed google indexed my tag and category pages. I should have looked at these options closer in Platinum SEO Plugin. Both are unchecked.

    Use noindex for Categories:
    Check this for excluding category pages from being crawled. Might help to avoid duplicate content.

    Use noindex for Tag Archives:
    Check this for excluding tag pages from being crawled. Might help to avoid duplicate content.

    Same thing with all in one seo pack.

    You have to check the "tag" one down the page. I have no idea why the default is to index these. Completely thin and duplicate content.

    I checked both of them but I suppose it's too late for the pages that are already indexed.

    I checked the robots.txt and there are no disallow statements in there so I wonder where Platinum SEO is making these changes at.

    One way to resolve this issue is a little work around. In Wordpress 2.9+ you can apply filters. You can do this:

    Goto your Wordpress theme's Archive.php file (located in the theme folder) and look for the code:
    Code:
    <?php content(); ?>
    If you see "excerpt" instead of "content", leave it alone. Otherwise, change it to:
    Code:
    <?php the_excerpt(); ?>
    Save the file.

    Now open the functions.php file (located in the theme folder) and add this code at the bottom:
    Code:
    function new_excerpt_length($length) {
    	return 20;
    }
    add_filter('excerpt_length', 'new_excerpt_length');
    Save the file.

    You will see that Category pages and Tag pages now show small excerpts of content. This is a way to reduce the duplicate content. This is what I do on my most blogs and allow indexing of Category pages and Tag pages. Hope this helps.

    I added this, but it had no effect on the cat/tag pages.

    Code:
    function new_excerpt_length($length) {
    	return 20;
    }
    add_filter('excerpt_length', 'new_excerpt_length');

    If links are canonical though, I thought there is no risk of duplicate content.

    Am I wrong on that?

    Not sure if I explained correctly, but here are the steps to do it .. http://www.lancelhoff.com/change-the...gth-wordpress/

    Same method can be explored here .. http://bavotasan.com/tutorials/quick...wordpress-2-9/

    If still that doesn't work, this should work .. http://bavotasan.com/tip-of-the-week...-in-wordpress/

    Last but not the least, if nothing works, hard coding should work .. wp-includes/post-template.php
    We can discuss that method if the above doesn't work.

    I know, Wordpress is a pain in the neck at times
