question about discount website based on banner ads
We are building a discount website based mostly on (300+) banner ads that offer discounts, coupons and free products. Does anyone know whether the search engines will denigrate this site due to the large amount of banner ads?

    Thank you.

Hi John, I deleted your duplicate thread that was in the Analytics category. I'm moving this thread to the Search Engines category.

Without relevant content, it will likely be designated a banner farm and sent to the SE version of never-never land. Try to provide something unique, different and useful to the potential users of your site.

If the 300 banners are categorized, spread over dozens of pages and accompanied by lots of useful and original content you might not be totally ignored by the searches. That does not mean that you should expect to start raking in money.

Just take a quick look at the sites that show up in organic serps for the terms you are hoping to get visitors for and see if you can come up with something better than those sites.

I would try to limit your banner ads at first and slowly increase and watch your stats to see the changes.

Thanks for all your response. If the banners are just images (perhaps some flash) with links to companies how does a search engine know they are ads?
We will not have any goggle ads.

Also, can anyone offer any websites that talk specifically about the ration of banner ads to content.

I really appreciate your info about adding good content and it is something that we will incorporate.

    Thank you.

The search engines have nothing to base you site on if all they find is images and no actual words (content).
