As some of you may know SSan.com accepts link additions and reciprocal linking. Today a person linking to ssan.com contacted me; he wanted to know why his link from SSan.com in Google said “Bad Link Report”.

I’m thinking what the heck is this guy talking about? I do offer a link called Report Bad link, just incase someone caught a merchants link not working. So off I go to Google and type in this person’s URL in the engine… SURE enough BLAM! Report Bad link, when I click on that link it took me to my own page called bad link. Needless to state I do not have the slightest idea why google would do this.

Here is a SSan.com’s link layout juts in case someone out there can tell me what the heck is going on.

(Title & URL Link) A&E Designs Classic Apparel
(Description) A&E Designs is proud to offer an outstanding array of quality apparel and gifts. Our gallery features over 1,400 t-shirt designs, dozens of great jackets and fleece wear, lots of very cool accessories and even some rare collectibles! Special prices are available for bulk quantities

(URL) Rate It (URL) Review It (URL**Took it off) Report Bad Link (URL) Send this link to a friend!

SO how in the heck did GOOGLE grab the 3rd URL on my page and designate it the sites url?????

If there is anyone out there that can make heads or tales of this I would appreciate it..

P.S. I took off the Report Bad Link Option --- Check your links!

I went to have a quick look.

Clicking on Add your Site or Modify your site is giving an error.

You may be working on something so know this already, in which case I apologise.

Well I checked my SSan.com links and they land on ypur pages fine. No idea where you put the EcomCity link. I searched for penis enlargement spells and even wart hog teeth or parrot beaks thinking I was buried in there somewhere.

    Here is a better example:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...ry&btnG=Search

When Google linked to that site from ssan.com they picked the 4th URL to index.
    -----------------------------------------------

SeventiesMartin: The error page belongs there; ssan.com lets you add links in the Yahoo style. You must find the appropriate category before you can add or modify a link.

EROR message: Find the Appropriate Category then select Add:

    -----------------------------------------------

Mokum: Good article but nothing remotely in the same realm as the issue I am facing. There are 5 links per each listing. Google has plucked out the 4th link and made it the sites URL. Unfortunately that link was to enable an individual to report the link as bad.

    -----------------------------------------------

As for you criminal Mike :

You are actually on there three times, and google did not mess up your listing? Go figure!

Google has indexed the URL http://www.ssan.com/cgi-bin/links/ba...ID=1275964&d=1 because you've got that link on one of your pages.

Unfortunately, they rank it ahead of the guys own page.

Which is funny, in a cruel way.

Even funnier, Google has index 25800 pages from that CGI...

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&l...gi&btnG=Search

So you're probably out-ranking a bunch of people with your "bad link" pages. :^)

You might want to exclude robots from indexing badlink.cgi.

Why the search engines do what they do is a mystery. I just got booted from a program because Google had a similar problem when they cached the wrong URL for a link.

The solution to your problem, of course, is to exclude cgi-bin/links/bad_link.cgi in your robots.txt file.

Some times it’s the easiest solution that is over looked!

Fortunately the badlink.cgi page has template that for my sites that have a similar code I changed to a nice detailed page instead of a "report this link" page. I switched to using a different link for reporting bad links.

On a related note, all the review.cgi links on a similar site are also ranking nicely in the Google results.......

I hate to exclude the links that Google likes, but going to a log in page instead of a product page will probably not make people very happy.....
