Which commission structure would you prefer?
    Hello Everyone,

I have a merchant who is in the works of starting their affiliate program with SAS in the next week or so. The question that has come up is as follows:

What commission structure should they offer (ie. % or Flat $ commission per sale).

    - The average sale is $200
    - The industry is Imprinted promotional products
    - It will be a daily deal site

The competitors who currently have an affiliate program are offering 3%.

The commission the merchant would like to offer is 4% or $10 / Sale

Would love to get your feedback.

    Thank you all in advance.

Affiliates would want higher commission rates. Getting affiliates for a new program can be hard; higher commissions will encourage them to sign up.

You may get more responses if the poll were private instead of public. For example, I might have clicked one of the choices but don't care to share my "vote" with anyone else.

Thank you bill for the feedback. I didn't realize that it was public. Hmm, will have to do another one and make it private.

    Thanks Bill.

"Imprinted promotional products" is a category that I'd normally expect to pay 10% or more, though of course it would depend on the specific types of products ordered and the actual price point charged to customers.

Thanks Mark for the input. I have been looking at competitors and have seen them offering between 3-5%, as the sales are usually over $300 (each sale). Some of the sites are here.

    Website 1

The ones who do pay over 10% seem more like Vista Print (Paper products).

Thank you again for all your help.

Moderator Note: I've changed it to a private poll

Unless I was promoting cheap products, I would prefer 4% instead of $10.

Perhaps you could do 4% with a $10 minimum? Or 4% plus a $10 bounty for new customers? I think either one of those would be more appealing to affiliates.

Thanks Michael for changing it to a private poll and your feed back on the commission. Definitely will look in to the 4% plus a bounty of $10 for new customers.
