My Checks Have Been Getting Smaller and Smaller!
Got this in the mail over the weekend from Yahoo. A check for $0.00 Not sure what it is for.
Wonder what would happen if I tried to cash it?

Deposit it at one of the major banks and it will probably go through.

    Did you try it?

"Hold between thumb and forefinger or breathe on it, color will disappear then reappear, and a simulated watermark on the back"

    (top of check)

Never seen that before but then again, I don't get live checks anymore and certainly not from Y! I let them keep my $0.12. Surprised I didn't get one lol.

I'd frame it and hang it over my desk, if I were you. It might be worth something some day.

I think it has something to do with the recent YPN closeout. I received a small amount ($5.something) DD from yahoo the other day. I wasn't sure what it was for, then I found out that I had a YPN ad on one of my very old site once. Never reached $100(YPN's minimum payment threshold). I forgot all about it, but Yahoo remembers.

But, why would they send you a $0 check tho? Did you check your YPN account balance before they closed the program?(I believe it was closed on 5/31). Otherwise I would contact them and see if it was a mistake. Maybe there is a big check on your way...

Why they would send out a cheque for 0 dollars really beats me. It just does not make sense, considering the cost of the paper cheque and the postage. It really must be some kind of error, like mayfly said, and maybe it really should be for a big amount. I would get in touch with them if I were you.

I opened a YPN account once but never used it. When I tried to access it again later I could not, so I just assumed they closed it forgot about it. Tried to open a new account later but could not. Never made any money. That is probably what the check is for.

With respect to the watermarks, these show up when you scan a check.

I don't check my PO Box very often, but yesterday I found my own check from Yahoo for $0.00. Very, very bizarre.

I've seen bizarre stuff before -- one dot-com company (which hadn't properly applied a credit to my account) mailed me an invoice for $0.55, month after month, always using an oversized envelope so they paid extra postage.

This is, I think, one of the drawbacks of "excessive outsourcing" and "unaudited automation."

These checks may have some compost value in the long run.

I would frame it. I get checks from Linkshare sometimes for $.30 even though I have min. payout $100. Some networks spend more money sending out the check then what its worth.

Maybe they forgot to add a digit

That's hilarious but at least Y pays their affiliates when they close shop. At least they didn't pull a GAN.

Just curious what you ended up doing with your check? Did you keep it? Toss it? Frame it?

I heard something once that can top this story. It seems a fellow was dunned for an outstanding balance of $0.00. At first he ignored it, but after the third overdue notice, his creditor loosed a collection agency on him! In order to get some peace and quiet, he finally mailed a check for "zero dollars and no sense."
