What's a good option for my $500 flat commission affiliate program?
    Hi,

I am in the business that helps people transfer their timeshare away from them.

My commission structure is very simple - for each closing, I'd pay out $500 flat.

Question #1 - should I run an in-house program or use one of the existing players? (if so - which one?)

Question #2 - since the commission is payable after closing (i.e. for a real client, and not just for a referral), how would that work?

    Thanks!

You would most likely have to pay per lead with an additional payment for closed deals. Affiliates would need to trust you to report the closed deals, which could be difficult to get them to do. You would need very good internal tracking in place to keep the affiliate id associated all the way through the closing process.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your response.

First, I think it's in my interest to pay the affiliates the deserved commissions.

As far as associating referral id with the referrer - that's an easy part via a 30-day cookie.

Paying $1 or $2 per lead would be feasible, but I am not sure the current state of the industry - whether it is reasonable or not. Please let me know your opinion.

If you mean you help people sell their timeshares AND you are in the U.S., you probably should check the real estate laws. In some states it is illegal to pay a sales commission/referral fee to someone who not licensed to sell real estate.

to Johns point, you can pay per lead but paying a % of a real estate commission requires the affiliate have a real estate license (at least in New York that was the case). For qualified leads $1-$2 sounds too low. CPC for "new york apts" for example is at least $3 a click for first page placement last time I checked.

Do you have a suggestion on the appropriate number?

That depends on your conversion rate and the average sale per transaction and what your minimum ROI requirement is.
