    Big Brand Spam
I guess by now I would expect that most reputable brands would understand that adding someone to a mailing list without their consent is just a poor, poor practice.

    I received a Welcome To Levi's.com e-mail this morning.

I've never been to their website, or purchased from them. In fact, I'm not sure I've ever owned a pair.

Yeah, I understand that some smaller companies desperate for business on views might be tempted.

    But Levi's? Seriously?

(BTW, I verified it was genuine and not spoofed. Links go to their site)

I once bought a Western Union money order at a Kmart store and started receiving spam from Kmart after that. Not appreciated.

The most shocking thing to me in this thread is you've never owned a pair of Levis?

Kevin, Levi's has an affiliate program on GAN, maybe they were hoping you'd get on the program?

Now THAT"S interesting. GAN is one of a select few places I use my Gmail account address.

You said: "I received a Welcome To Levi's.com e-mail this morning."

Did the welcome message look like a welcome to an affiliate program?
Or did it look as if affiliate participation could be part of the welcome message?

I think some programs are eager to get certain/specific affiliates and that may or may not be the reason why you received such a message.
They are welcoming you -- you have the option to take them up on their offer or to disregard it.

    I wouldn't mind a genuine welcome message.

What I don't like is a situation I have experienced: through GAN & through Linkshare I have received messages aimed at affiliates [not me specifically] but worded in such a way that it looks as if I would be accepted into the affiliate program if I apply -- then upon applying I get turned down
Don't tease me with a potential welcome message and then treat me like a yo-yo.

CJ has a good way for "automatic acceptance" -- In the "Today's Task Box" sometimes I will get a new offer in "Offers pending your approval" -- I like that method

Is your email address common, like smith@gmail.com or bigboy@gmail.com? Some people just enter bogus email addresses when signing up to stuff and you get spammed for it. I had a common email at gmail that was always getting spammed because it was a common word.

@Rhia7: This was an email message that made it look like I had a consumer account at their website.

Then I would either igonore that or unsubscribe -- if a password has been sent to you change the password and "kill" the account -- I had to do that a few times.
I've had the troubles described by ParadigmWilliam

Usually an "enrollment e-mail" asks you to click a link to confirm: don't do it.
