    Filling out a 1099
When I pay an affiliate and submit a 1099 for them, what fields am I requried to fill out?

    1. Payer Name Street address, state, zip and phone. (Vendor)
    2. Payers federal identification number (Vendor)
    3. Recipients Identification number (affiliate)
    4. Nonemployee compensation. (money transferred during the year)
    5. Street address (affiliate)
    6. City State and zip code (affiliate)

Is that it or is there something else required?

A 1099 needs the affiliate's signature so they should have filed that form when they joined. You shouldn't be filing 1099s for other people. There is plenty of accurate info on the IRS site.

Yes I got their signature, I am just wondering do I need to fill out any other sections, like section 15 or section 9?

Whoops - sorry 2busy, you've got your forms mixed up. The affiliate submits a form W-9 to anyone who will be paying them non-employee compensation - that is the form the affiliate fills out and signs, verifying their tax id, business entity and that they are not subject to back-up withholding. The 1099 is the form the payor (network, merchant, etc.) fills out, submits to the IRS and sends a copy to the payee (affiliate).

Yes, that is right AffiliateHound. I am wondering can anyone tell me when I create the 1099 to send to the affiliate and Uncle Sam, what fields would need to be filled out. I did my research and belive I know, but beign that I am dealing with taxes it would be nice if I can get conformation.

Best to talk right to an accountant that knows. We could give inaccurate info here that could get you in trouble.

I'm pretty sure you've got it covered. (I filled out hundreds of these, but none since 2001). Remember, though - if you have over a certain number of 1099s, I think 250, you have to file electronically.

May I inquire why you are doing this now? 1099s are to be sent to payees in Jan. and filed by the end of March.

As the others have said - best to consult an accountant (I'm not an accountant and I've never even stayed in a HI Express)
