    Dear Shareasale
I considered posting this in your forum, but then decided against it.

I'd just like to take a moment to thank you, the Cubbies, and your fine city of Chicago for being such fine hosts to the Pittsburgh Pirates this year.

If it weren't for us being 8 and 2 against you this year, we would sadly have a record of 16-55.

We'd also still be mired in a 17 game road losing streak. But you laid out the red carpet last night, and we thank you. Let's get together again tonight, shall we?

    Kevin,

Anytime my friend.... being the only White Sox fan in the office and originally from the Burgh, it always makes me smile to see the Cubbies lose.

FACT: Crosstown series this season went to the Sox 4-2 #JustSayin'

I was as Wrigley Field three seasons ago and I don't even remember who the Cubs played. What I do remember is that it was an incredible experience just to watch a baseball game in that stadium. What an amazing old structure it is - we had a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

The Cubs losing to the Pirates is a decades old tradition. Heck, the Cubs losing to everybody is a decades old tradition that occasionally gets interrupted. You have to love them. I used to spend a lot of time in that old stadium as a former Wrigleyville inhabitant.

in my predictions before the 2009 season, I said about the over-hyped Cubs something to the effect that no team that relies on Milton Bradley and Rich Harden (let alone BOTH of them) will ever win anything. This year I said "Still see as overrated though no Bradley a big plus. Will go as far as pitching takes them; big comeback from Zambrano is essential." You can see where that has gotten them.

Kevin, I've always had a bit of a soft spot in my heart for the Pirates, for two reasons: My mother was born in Pittsburgh (though she left when she was around two, and never returned), and years ago I knew Bob Prince's father very well. He was a top lawyer in LA for whom my uncle worked, and the three of us went to a lot of games together.

That said, I also said before the season that the Pirates are going in the wrong direction, and that they had a much more talented rooster two years ago than now. Last year they ended at .385 (62-99). Now they are playing .342 ball.

Greg, Jason - I also picked the White Sox as the AL Wild Card team - despite their horrible start, they are in the hunt.

The on the field product is deplorable at the moment, but since Nutting/Huntington took over our minor league system has filled up nicely. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

To me, the real surprise this year is the ineffectiveness of our starting pitching. This was not an area that we considered a "major hole" heading into the season. But there is help coming next year. Late next year

McCutchen, Tabata, and Walker have been great (although Tabata's OPS/AVG are a little low since he started slowly). Pedro Alvarez' numbers look awful, but he has started painfully slow every time he made a jump to a new level.

The Buccos will make more trades this year. And fans will get ticked. But it is what it is. The team isn't ready to win due to Littlefield's management of the club up until 2006. I don't expect a fire sale, but we will trade folks that won't be a part of a winning club in 2012.

brain cramp: Correction - the guy I knew, George Prince, was Bob Prince's uncle, not his father. not that it really matters to anyone else

Wow. I had this weird feeling (I did not look at the subforum it is in) that this was going to be one of those "Hey SAS, here is what is wrong with such and such posts."

    And then this...brilliant Kevin.

    He pitched a great game.

And, you won despite a rare excellent performance from former Pirate Tom Gorzelanny.

@Matt: Plenty of pics of the SAS crew at Cubs games, so I figured I'd stick with our forum theme
