I joined a parasite infected affiliate program years ago when I didn't know what parasites was. Anyway, a while back, at least a year, maybe 2, I removed all thier links. It was a linkshare program, so I had never been paid, so even though I had no links to them, I never dissolved the affiliate relationship.

Anyway, I know all the links are gone, no doubt at all (my site was much smaller in the olden days) But clicks kept coming. Didn't bother me, I just assumed they would dwindle to nothing. A couple months ago, the program lowered it payment threshhold and I got a check, who would have thunk it. Anyway, several days ago, someone actually bought something. How did I get a commission from links that haven't existed in over a year??? No clue. This type of think must happen all the time.

Gordon: this is still linkshare, it has a minimum commission to be achieved. Strangely enough, the sale was 2 sales containing 10 products. I earned $4+ in commisisons, will it ever get to $10, the new minimum, who knows ;-)

Heyder: this is one of the few nice interesting things about affiliate marketing. I noticed a while back that, well at least with private affiliate programs, you put up a few product links and search engines pick them up as real page links. This especially happens when the merchant's site is search engine unfriendly. Seems lots of site designed doesn't know that search engines won't spider a combobox.

loxly: but its been over a year and I didn't even use product links. Can't be a search engine cached page since it should have been replaced with the updated page by now.

There are lots of tucked away pages that don't get replaced, trust me.

Our service experiences that as well ... I also believe some visitors use the browser "file - save as" option as well. Some of our research of these rare events show even Google, Wayback Machine, etc. did not even have a copy of obscure pages creating an occassional sale.
