Wow, I have seen many websites showing the countdown of available IPv4 addresses and the numbers are decreasing pretty fast.

Experts predict the world will run out of internet addresses in less than a year,...
Let's look at the bright side...

Since the world is going to end on 2012 anyway, at least some of the people that are not able to get a new internet addresses a year from now, they would be free to wait for the end of the world without having to worry about, tracking, spam, tweeting, etc, etc...

    ----------

But, if the end of IPv4, and the 2012 thingy, turn out to be another Y2k event, it's good to know that Vista is ready to handle IPv6, already...

Some of the comments are hilarious.

Speaking as a programmer, any thing that generates more work for me is a good thing - I made a killing "fixing" Y2K on PC's - Let the crisis begin!

I'm not too concerned. IPv6 has been in development long enough. It's not like this is out of the blue. Kinda saw it coming It'll be less dramatic than Y2K because everyday (read: non-geeky) people won't have a clue about it, and it'll still be a non-issue just like Y2K was. That's my prediction

It'll be just like all the other religions that predict the end of the world or the second coming of someone. The date will come and go, and they'll backpedal and try to explain it away. LOL

By the way, I don't think there's anything going to happen when we run outta IPv4 .. it will be just like Daniel explained. At the last moment, a solution will be offered which will save the eWorld

Switching over from a ipv4 address format to an ipv6 address format can be pretty expensive, which is probably why many companies have been reluctant to do so. The company I work for has been porting applications to support both ipv4 and ipv6 and I can say that it is a daunting task in a company of this size. The main issue on the tools I support is the length of the field that holds the ipaddress has to now support one that is considerably large/longer.
