No, blog commenting can help you get backlinks, but usually it is not effective as most blog owners put a nofollow tag automatically on any links posted within the comments section. This essentially means that your link doesn't count towards link popularity.

I would work on posting in forums with a signature link plus creating and submitting articles, versus trying to post your link into blog comments. Even if you get a link in blog comments, it won't help with link popularity typically because of the use of the nofollow tag.

If you are having a hard time finding links, then try the new Link Builder program provided by WordTracker. They have a free 7 day trial to get you started quickly.

Some blogs have do-follow links. You'll just have to find where. It may take some time but might be worth your while.

Does link building still works? I heard that old SEO methods do not work as well as before.
Low quality directories and submission sites do not as much link juice that they had in the past, etc.

Biggest problem with blog comment linking is that it's been ruined by spammers.

I have three or four sites run by WordPress where I happily accept comments on the posts. BUT -- Akismet catches most of the spam, and when I find it myself as I moderate comments, I quickly mark it as spam and delete it.

You wouldn't believe the HUNDREDS, maybe even THOUSANDS of spam comments I've deleted over the last few years. Garbage of huge line after line collections of nothing but porn phrases sometimes. Sometimes just a lame little, "Hey, nice post. I didn't think of that."

Both cases, they get deleted, because they really aren't legitimate, useful comments. They're just a way someone thinks they'll get a link from my blog.

I had one person with poor quality English-as-a-second-language skills who tried repeatedly over a few weeks to post the comment: "Nice post. Wat's your myspace account?" He or she did that exact same comment on all my blog sites and was rejected every time.

So if you're really interested in getting backlinks with blog comments, I'd say this:

    1. Post genuine, useful comments, NOT just "Hi. Nice work." stuff -- AND CERTAINLY NOT PORN.

    2. Good luck with your efforts. (That was sarcasm.)
    Generate more fake news.

Link building of course still works, just not using "Low quality directories and submission sites".

Yes blog posting works, you just need to post on the right blogs. That can be a challenge in itself. If your looking for an easy way to get blog back links linkvana.com is very good for that. Its a bit pricey but they do deliver.

I would agree with this - articles are good. If you want to use blogs for links then find blogs that have a topic or subject that fits reasonably close to yours , make a post or two WITHOUT leaving a link, then contact the blog webmaster / owner and suggest a reciprocal link based on the advantage to both parties. Many are amenable to such an arrangement. Check regualrly that the link is still active - if not then delete at your end as well (some will say yes then later on remove the link).

Some say that reciprocal links are not much value these days however many disagree - if the recip is with a site with commonality it is then a good link, recip or not.

    cheers,
    Mike

Blog Commenting is Great for Backlinks, But the Problem is, every blogger want more than "Thank you for sharing" and a pure formal English.

Which, of course, is why blog commenting really ISN'T a good source of backlinks anymore.

I may have said earlier in this thread -- should have checked first, so I apologize if I'm just repeating myself! -- most of my blogs either aren't set up to allow comments, or the comments I get are overwhelmingly just worthless, spammy things like, "Nice post. I learned a lot," and so I mark them spam if Akismet hasn't already.

That isn't a problem. If you don't have more to contribute then it isn't worth leaving a comment and the blogger won't approve the comment. If you are commenting on an English speaking blog, then good English is going to be a requirement, but if you are leaving a real comment about the blog content, a good blog won't mind if your English isn't perfect.

I agree, I've done a lot of blog posting in my time and it has managed to get me on to page 2 of google on it's own. I am now looking at other methods as well. It should be part of a strategy and not the whole strategy.

Link building is essential for strong SEO. Know that the strongest sites work very hard at getting solid inbound links from relevant sites.
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die
to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there
isn't and die to find out there is.

    from relevant sites.
This is the part that does help SEO, not 1000 unrelated blog spam comments that will be deleted. The "Leave a Comment" link is not a command.

And it means a real comment, not a link. I'll automatically delete any comment that includes a link, I don't care if it's from someone who is a regular contributor. You want a link, ask in advance via my contact form and I'll consider it, IF it's relevant to the blog.

In my personal experience submitting article to article directories is the best way to get quality backlinks.
But, if you are looking for fast backlinks, consider bookmarking your post on as many social bookmarking sites as you can. You can automated tools to automate the process. Submitting your RSS to RSS directories can also get you a lot of backlinks fast. Good luck.

One thing to keep in mind link building is being sand boxed by Google, etc. The easiest form of link building is to pay, the costs now are relatively cheap ( 750 high PR directories for 60.00 ), however getting your site sand boxed by google is a very real reality.

A lot of link building sites offer "slow building" meaning they will submit to 100 directories a week for 7 1/2 weeks ( i.e 750 directories ) the cost is a bit more, but keeps you SE friendly.

As well to having someone do your link building for you, you are able to use at most places different descriptions, and titles, some allow 5 or 10 different ones.

Most places will do Articles for you ( including writing and submitting ), one thing i like to share is the % rule, a certain percentage of what you make from affiliate marketing goes to direct re-building or building of your business/website/blog/resource. 10% is a good number, so for every 100.00 you put 10.00 towards re-building/marketing which goes to people who are smarter then you.

You will find by this approach, over time, you will be earning a very lucrative income from Affiliate Marketing, while minimizing the time you need to invest.

What you will have really done is purchased yourself freedom to live the life you deserve with out paying the price with your time.

    All the best,
    Rick W.Fehr
