    Hi all,

Tell me if I am wrong, but noticed that at ABW there is no such thing as "reputation point" or similar.

We have here, different users' colors and different categories, that are actually attached to the number of post.

    Am I right?

    Thanks all.

Everyone is off at ASE10. They may pop in to handle spam and scan the posts but not addressing every post.

You are right, there is no formal "reputation" here, people know who's who though.

    Thanks for the answer.

I am quite new here and was wondering if you ever tried a reputation system managed by the users? or is something that the admins might consider?.

It's nice that everyone know who's who, but what about the new members?, the categories are attached to posts number and you know... quantity it's not always quality and

    Just an opinion

lol... ok, you can answer even if I am right

lostdeviant, Sorry, but I disagree with you. And, in any case, if this "contest" prompt members to help and post more, so what's so bad?

There used to be a way to cast your "vote" on the value of individual threads, but I don't know if the feature is available w/ the new forum. I think it was like a thumbs up, thumbs down feature. Actually, I shouldn't even comment because, come to think of it, I can't remember how it worked or if it was on this forum. So don't listen to me (anyone care to vote on the value of this post?) lol

You can still rate threads from terrible (1 star) to excellent (5 stars), it's all the way to the right on the same line with the thread title next to Search.

Rating the thread it's also an option, nevertheless, in the same thread there are many people helping...

I understand if the reputation system is not an option, just wanted to know the reasons.

I truly believe it's a helpful tool for such big forum.

    Cheers!

MERCHANTS: Start showing your coupons directly on your site, that way your shoppers will stop leaving your site looking for them!! If not then remove your Coupon Box!!

The system works fine as it is.

Reputations build over time by gaining the trust of others is more substantial than a check by the numbers reputation guide.

    I agree with LostDiviant

    "Popularity contest"

On every forum where I have seen this feature used, those who had the biggest "**cks", for the most part, are those who gained it through begging, trading, and backpattery. It is a truly useless feature.

I am trying to see this whole issue from a new member, as me, point of view...

I really don't know yet if the fact that you have 1 million posts makes you respectable and unfortunately there is no way to know with the current system... I won't post "Is John Doe Respectable?" and a) Really don't think someone will answer to such question

    b) I seriously won't be able to go check all the million posts.

Completely understand if you are happy with the system, just think that if you can improve something or make it more fair and user friendly, then do it

But once again, this is just my point of view.

    Cheers!

Reputation is not determined by the number of posts made. Reputation is determined by what the readers remember about the posts and poster.

I agree, it's just too easy to game the system and in this biz it could lead some newbies to trust some people they should not. Nothing beats good old fashioned research.

Those of us who have been here for 9 years only have half a clue as to who is trustworthy/knowledgeable/reputable/etc and who is not. We're familiar with some, and not with others. Just like out there in the "real world"; it's a jungle out there!

So how do you judge people like me with a merely 4 posts versus you with more than 17000+ posts?
