Shareasale Affiliate Aquarium - Best Practices

As you can see, I rather new to this site (posting at least) but have a decent background in affiliate marketing. Although my experience lies mostly with CJ, my company also runs a program with Shareasale, both as a merchant and affiliate. After management expressed interest in reaching out to more affiliates, I signed up for the Affiliate Aquarium, hoping to make some meaningful connections with potential affiliates.
I must profess my ignorance as I'm new to business oriented social media. I was hoping someone could share some insights on what they're found to be a polite way to reach out to affiliates. Any comments are much appreciated!

We recently set up blogs for a couple of our merchants in the Aquarium so that we could share information that might attract new affiliates as well. If an affiliate is visible in the aquarium, I would recommend checking their listed sites before you contact them to be sure their sites are a good fit. Affiliates that are in the Aquarium have opted it to be open to talk to merchants, but be sure it is related conversation and not a blanket "be our affiliate" sent to everyone you find.
