Can I install and use remotely the Webmerge linux version on VPS hosting?

I am considering moving from a shared to a VPS hosting. I am really a beginner when it comes to VPS or dedicated servers so I was wondering wheteher I will be able to:
1) install the Webmerge linux version directly on the VPS hosting space
2) run the software remotely to generate the pages directly on the hosting space rather than having to do it locally and then upload them via ftp (very time consuming)
3) if so, will I be able to install the webmerge linux version (developed on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS) on a CentOS linux VPS server?
Thanks for your help,

WebMerge currently requires several UI libraries to be installed when running on any Linux version, but some Linux web servers don't include all of them because they often run with a minimized GUI setup if any at all.
I may be able to make a faceless WebMerge for you which can be run from the command line, provided you have SSH access to do so.
Longer term I'd like to make a desktop "Control Panel" for running WM on a server, but I'm not certain that's the best approach. Some page generation setups in WebMerge can take a minute or more to run, which is far too long to tie up a server. I may be able to add periodic wait states to the generation as an option (I've already sent an experimental "throttle" control to a customer for a similar need), but even then you'd want to be careful to run it only during off-peak hours so it doesn't slow down Apache.
How many pages do you generate in a given WebMerge run?Richard Gaskin
