An article about eBay's program, though it looks like it's a pr piece mostly. It tells yousomething about this business that you can find ads for porn affiliate programs in the same issue as an article about selling to the religion niche, lol, something for everybody.

Heh, Mike and Charlie have a letter to the editor, lol.

There's a quote from Phillyburbs and my Sr. VP in there as well.

good stuff overall! (though I did have someone ask if I should rip out the PornKings ad before passing it around the office ;-)

I haven't gotten past the ad on page 11 - and I swear I really did buy it to read the articles.

Now, lansing, it took you 22 minutes to read page 11??!

I see Carolyn got a nice little blurb in for CollectiblesToday, it's great to see so many ABWers getting some mention in the magazine, hope it works into some positive action for them.

There's a reason army's wear uniforms even though it makes them easier to spot. Sometimes that's what you want. Uniforms suggest organization, power, and numbers. These, in turn, inspire fear. And, as any good operative knows, there is no more effective weapon than fear.

This issue was a great improvement over the previous issue. The Secret to Begin Super article could be a perfect lead-in to future articles on selecting the best merchants or what makes an affiliate program great - commission rate, availability of text links, banners, fpc's, ad copy, PSC or equivalent, data feed and other marketing materials along with which network they're on (or what their Indy affiliate content looks like).

Great PR piece on LinkShare, but my thoughts went towards how bad their login routine has become for an otherwise great affiliate network.

Of course, the obvious contrast would be the religious sites article - making money on religion and the advertisement for PornKings. Will certainly be eye-catching if you pass the issue around - some folks may ponder for a moment on whether you have a porn site...

The article on eBay seemed like a PR piece to someone who still makes dimes on a transactions. Takes a lot of dimes to add up to six figures. Only rarely get an active registration so I guess the big affiliates produce the bulk of those.

I've been experimenting with color on my websites - darker shades verses lighter shates - It is something we all seem to know about but often forget that we have to appeal to the masses more than ourselves. With a number of websites, I don't want too many to look the same so I use a variety of templates and colors and utilize a common logo to tie them together.

All in all, a very good issue. Looking forward to the next issue.

I have to wonder about the accuracy of Revenue's "The Secret to Being Super" article. According to the article, super affiliate ClearSave.com "gets a whopping 300,000 hits per day" but ClearSave has an Alexa ranking of only 697,150.

Comparatively, the FreeRide.com site also mentioned in the article "gets 30,000 hits per day" and has a much more realistic Alexa ranking of 21,001.

Thought eBay pretty much got a free ride in their article, IMO they dismissed complaints about their tracking and such as coming from underperforming affiliates. I do not have the article in front of me right now to quote on, but it felt almost like a sour grapes comment.

Many other articles were enjoyable, though. Overall a good read.

Anybody else notice that big "contextual advertising network" ad on page 26? Our software...
I think we can tell from this, other articles, and other threads that they are probably leaning a little to the "dark side", if you get my meaning Luke.

had to email to get 1st issue as well.

Anyone know if they have an admin console or something for subscribers?

Want to end my almost-every-issue chase (for what I think is a great, great mag).

They still need a "Parrot Poop" editorial section to be a well rounded success...

I don't do AM at all for myself, but as part of my FT office job. And, yes, I wear a tie to work (usually braces/suspenders, too) every day except Friday.

... and it's not because I can't "figure out" how to stay home.

You know what, I was being narrow minded and was projecting my own goals onto others, namely you in this case, but certainly guilty of doing it to others as well.

So thanks for the friendly reminder that we're individuals with differing tastes and goals.

I'm off to change my tag line line... tiny little gesture to say sorry to you.

And truth be told, it's my 18 1/2 neck that makes me dislike ties and button up shirts - when I buy one that fits my neck, it's about 20 inches too wide around my 34 waist... And I guess my assumptions about you (or others wearing ties) were just reflecting my fat head, not anything about you.

    :-)

Went looking for new tag line... loved the stuff here: http://www.despair.com

That one... "If you're struggling with loneliness, you're not alone"... cracked me up...

Decided to go with something personal instead (copyright infringers chap my butt)...
