I guess that is what it is called...
I am building a new site that has totally different stuff than my current site but am being asked by affiliate programs to wait for approval to carry their links until site is built...so how do I build it without the affiliate links? It is going to be BARE bones until then and what are the odds of approval without a lot of really good content?

You could apply for the programs under your current site. Put the links in, and add the site(s) to the network after the fact.

    (btw - it's "catch-22")

You could build a bare bones site with content from Wikipedia and the ODP (read the licenses carefully, it's free with the correct attribution). Design a template and make it look pretty. There's no harm in letting merchants know the site is under construction either.
Innovative advertising with Slimeware Corporation and Telephore. Mail-order fuel with Petrol Direct.

I built one once and it seems every merchant I applied to had to manually approve me. Some were faster than others, and unfortunately the ones I really wanted to give space to were slow in responding.

So...I put up my own "ads" as placeholders that were very colorful to catch attention, and said "MERCHANT: Your ad could be here!" and goofy things like that. I had a 100% acceptance rate on that site!

What I do is build the site with all of the content that I want. After that where I plan on placing a banner or a hyperlink, i insert text like this:

Featured Sponsor Goes Here or 468x60 banner goes here...

I find most programs just want to know that you have a real website, and are going to apply some effort instead of attempting to rip them off.
