superCool got that one time and there was a checkbox below that asks if you really want to reply to the old post. if you click it you can post the reply. at least that's what happened to superCool. he almost didn't see the checkbox either and nearly gave up. check it out and see if the box is there.

Sometimes a thread topic is still of interest in spite of its age.
How about a topic such as: "What's your favorite php/html editor?"
Are you going to lock that thread? That's a recurring topic of interest.~Rhia7 -- Remember the 7

This was an enhancement added in response to this thread. As superCool pointed out, there should be a checkbox where you can acknowledge that the thread is old but that you want to respond anyway. If there isn't one, please let me know which sub-forum and how you were trying to respond. There were some templates that initially didn't show the option, but I think they should all be fixed now.
The intent isn't to prevent responding to old threads, but to make sure people realize that they're old.
