Question Should you do a little bit of a datafeed at a time and unique content question?
If I have a blog that has reviews and other unique content articles, and I want to supplement that with a datafeed that is not unique (it's just the catalog as a post in wordpress), should I do a little bit of the datafeed at a time? I already have some page ranking with the articles but am scare the datafeed won't do anything or worse knock me back down.

    Just hoping for thoughts. Thanks.

Merely adding a merchant's catalog content to your blog will provide no benefit to you or the merchant. At the very least, those pages will be tagged as duplicate content and won't be shown by search engines to visitors who search for relevant terms; at worst, your entire site will disappear from search results. Even if your site isn't penalized, if the catalog content overwhelms your original content, search engines may be confused by the catalog content and might not recognize the merit of your original material. (If you're using Google Sitemaps, make sure to assign higher rankings to your original content pages.)

You draw visitors (who might then click on advertising to buy products from merchants) by providing relevant and useful content on your web site. Reproducing a catalog isn't "relevant or useful."

I hate to be dumb but how does anyone use a datafeed the? Unless they are doing a price comparison site. One person said that he had 650,000 pages (on an established site). How can he have something unique on all those pages that is useful?

superCool did something similar to this recently. he didn't create WP posts for the items but he added about 1k item pages outside of WP with some interlinking between the two. the WP site had about 100 pages before adding the items. site is a little over a year old. some of the product info is wrapped with original content but most is not. to superCool's surprise, the pages are ranking fairly well and getting some traffic. around 150 visitors per day to the 1000 item pages. (don't know if that's good or bad for datafeed pages?) the items are very tightly matched to the content of the site, so that probably helped.

superCool started out adding small pieces at a time (less than 50 per week), but after a few sets of additions he gave up and just pushed the rest out there. it is working fine but not a lot of sales compared to the traffic.

all sites are different, so it might be better or worse on yours. superCool doesn't see how it could hurt your site to do this, but you never know. why not try a group or two and see how it goes? good luck johnnyAffiliate

If there is nothing else on the site it would be a problem but if you have content and add to it regularly and if the 'catalog' items are related to your content it does work. Not overnight and not if you don't keep adding content. Best to tweak the descriptions if possible.
