Only my opinion, but I was always under the impression that was just a theory and not fact.

many observe google indexing a site and sending traffic but then throttling it down after a period of time. sometimes the traffic builds up after several months again.

I monitor one site that has 4400+ possible real pages. Google has indexed up to 166 pages before but only admits to 133 now. Other sites that were started before and after, in a group, have lost more pages indexed or only were in for six pages and those stopped being listed two weeks ago.

try this: enter site:www.yourdomain.com in a google search box and see how many pages they admit to compared to how many you know are really there.

not necessarily the only indicator but one to know, anyway.

I have numerous sites and all pages were listed and ranked well in Google a while back. Now in checking I find the only pages listed are the index pages from each site.

Is this their new policy or what's up with that?

It has lots of pages for the sites of mine that I checked, but I see that many of the listings have no description or cached copy. Offhand, I'd say that only about 15% are fully listed of the ones they admit knowing about.

This is with sites that have been established for over a year.

While doing an "allinurl" on one of my sites Sunday I found that Saturday Google did an update that included a site that I built *last week* and that several sites that previously were listed by not indexed now had cached copies (including the brand new one!)

I followed up by doing some keyword searches and some more "link" and "allinurl" checks and most of my sites are well indexed. Not bragging, just letting you know that not everyone was cut back to one indexed page, AND it seems that they did *something* this past weekend.

And, yeah, the Sandbox effect is anecdotal, it isn't something Google says they do. So the trick now it to time the Sandbox to coincide with the holidays!!!! Not gonna happen!!!!!

    edited to add:
Forgot to mention that the newest sites still aren't showing any PR though! And all the indexed sites are linked from a couple of PR5-6 sites I have.
