My star trek affiliate site got an unexpected boost in traffic today. Payoff however=$0.00

    Stats last two days
Day Date Page Loads Unique Visitors First Time Visitors Returning Visitors
    Wednesday 15th September 2004 1,821 1,006 1,004 2
    Tuesday 14th September 2004 91 53 50 3

Here is one of the issues here
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/3658310.stm

BBC put me in under related internet links
Visitors came from the europe portugal and world issue today
I have always wondered what happens when sites get an unexpected boost in visitors in a situation like this
    Kind of a disappointment
Looks like tire kickers, not buyers came through, clicks are up somewhat on the links I have on it but NO sales unless my amazon reports show differently tomorrow
Thanks though to the BBC anyways, at least a few more eyeballs got to see the site

Oh well, will just back to chasing that elusive goal of some big bucks and enjoy the thought that a place like the BBC liked my affilate site enough to add a link totally out of the blue

Hopefully that link will increase your SERP ranks a bit. It can't be too often that someone gets a link from a site like that...

I see that Google doesn't know about that BBC page yet (their page is PR0 still). Maybe if you just "happen to mention" the fact that your "site was mentioned on the BBC" with a link to their page, it'll get the ball rolling...

Sounds good Heyder... we should take it elsewhere...

One thing though... my post was not off topic...

If you remember episode 62 or 63... I forget which...
Kirk and Spock were on the planet fighting for their lives
and calling on the Enterprise for help... but the Enterprise
had responded to a false SOS sent out by the Kligons to
lure them away from the planet...

Later, the Kligons sent another distress call and that’s when
Scotty said... “Fool me once, shame on you... Fool me
twice shame on me...” That’s the first time I’d ever heard it...

Can’t get much more Star Trek than that...

    As far as politics...

    I agree with Thomas Jefferson...
“People get the government that they deserve...”

    Either that or... “Chit Happens”...

Blimey that's handy Might be worth a big chunk of PageRank too in the future depending on how many links get created to the BBC page.

What if they had an election and nobody voted?

Either way... Jefferson was still right...

Congrats WW! What about putting up Google AdSense right below the header while this traffic splurge is going on? Might make a buck or two.

One of my sites received an inbound link from a French news site. It got 27 direct referrals and a couple hundred from each Google Language Tool IPs and Altavista's Babelfish.

Just noticed Philly burbs got a link to a story over at Drudge, I'll bet that's a pretty good bump too. (I'm jealous)...
