Affiliate link on a merchant site
    Hi,

Would you ever add an affiliate link to a footer of merchant website. The product has nothing to do with the product on the website except that the website was built with it.

    Is this considered a leak?

    Thank you all

Yes, it is a LEAK. Don't do it unless you want to chase way your affiliates.

If you want to (also) be an affiliate - start another Website and keep it totally separate from your merchant site/activities.

I have to agree with Bill. ANY link that could possibly divert affiliate traffic that affiliates aren't compensated for is a leak. It's not worth losing the trust of your affiliates.

    Hey Remmatt,

Yeah, I was almost positive, but I said to myself: " Ask the experts, they will tell you "

Try to find a direct supplier for the product and offer it from your site. They you can "tell the world about it", and your affiliates can make some promoting it as well.

Pretty good idea, but I am not sure If they allow this, they have an in house program. Hmm. I wonder..

I want to promote everything that I love myself. Is this normal?

If they designed your website, a non affiliate straight link, small in the footer, is acceptable. Any affiliate coded link is not.

Not through your merchant site. You are going to send customers away from your site?

No, I don't. And it is not a good idea to try to introduce the new product to the old clients as they are not related to the old product line.

So, thank you! You have always been pointing me the right way and I really appreciate that.

Yes, and I would drop the merchant!!
MERCHANTS: Start showing your coupons directly on your site, that way your shoppers will stop leaving your site looking for them!! If not then remove your Coupon Box!!

No, but I would not send traffic to another affiliate site. If you add a affiliate like to any site then it is an affiliate site. I not will to help any merchant make money on their own affiliate links!!

I understand the worry about traffic leaking through that link if it is on the page, but what is the worry if it is on the confirmation page?

They don't mix. A merchant website should NEVER have an affiliate link, anywhere.

Also it is possible that the merchant could over right my affiliate cookie for the same merchant. If the affiliate is promorting the merchants site they are more then likly to be promoting the same merchant that the merchant wants to permote as well..

To make it a clear as possible. Why would an affiliate want to help the merchant make money if they do not make money from it as well. That is why we setup affiliate sites to make money.

That is possible, but what is the chance of that?

What is a chance that someone shopping for ceiling tiles is also looking for a shopping cart?

I GOT IT, DO NOT MIX THEM UP. ( Remember, I am not having affiliates promote shopping cart but ceiling tiles)

Someone said: "Search for you affiliates in your client database"

Now that client base is also affiliates clients database.

At the end of the day, it is a LEAK and affiliates do not like it.

I respect that and I have no leaks
