Yes. For the rest of your (web) life!

On a more serious note, SEO is a constantly evolving landscape, including such things what you can do onsite, link building, what your competitors do, how the SEs value a website to social marketing. It's a moving target...but get too caught up in it & you can develop paralysis by analysis syndrome.

Onsite SEO is almost one time.

Offline SEO which basically linkbuilding is a continues process.

i think it s a combine result of one time and continuous. you have to continue link building, social media marketing, and submit your site to other forums, directories etc.
but writing a content, optimizing the article, maintaining the webmaster, title, etc is one time. you will get benefit for life time!

Nope, you need to keep on working, or at least maintaining.

SEO is like a long term investment for your online business. It cannot be stopped at any time, the more you do the more you get benefitted.

I think on site SEO and off site SEO, both are a long term continuous process. As long as your site is alive, you'll have to continue SEO. Specially the off site SEO.
The more you'll continue SEO, the more you'll be benefited.

Would you want it to be a one day event?
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die
to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there
isn't and die to find out there is.

Things like:- domain name and directory/file name, Title tag, keyword prominence, content etc are one time isn't it? That's why I said almost.

I do wonder about this onetime online SEO. Are you referring to any directory listing? The back links will last for ever if it as done with unique contents.

It's one time "on site/page" SEO, not online. I don't think he means directory listings. Basically SEO is generally divided into two categories: on-site/page SEO and off-site/page SEO. Off site SEO mostly involved getting links back to your website from outside sources (directories, bookmarks, articles, etc). On-site SEO however, involves optimizing your own website so that it is search engine friendly. These are things like using H1, H3 tags, bold and italicizing your keywords, having a SEO friendly URL, using meta tags and description, etc.

Link building is an ongoing process which is why everyone has replied that it is not a one time thing. Optimizing your website however, can be a one time thing unless of course you add new content (which is advisable).

    Hope that answers the question.

Im fully in agreement that file directories and so are once off, but as far as content goes, SE's love fresh and also revised content.

I always used to make an effort of rewording or rewriting atleast 7-10% of my articles every month... This shows SE that the site is not stale. But I never touched my internal links... And to this day I know if it was a good or bad thing.

Corporate SEO is not a one-time thing. It’s an ongoing process that requires ongoing resources if you have any plans on reaping ongoing ROI.

Before retiring and entering this very challenging environment I was involved in running a number of business ventures in which we were acutely aware that if you stood still you were very quickly overtaken.

I see no difference with any internet venture. We are all in competition with someone so it is essential to stay ahead of the opposition to succeed and this will involve constantly examining your site, your content, your marketing of your site and on and on ad infinitum.
